Brain fog

Have been gone for some time. I had 2 strokes about 2 years ago and brain fog has never left. I thought mayb medication fog, bue over the 2 years have weeded the medicatiin out. Or how do I know this is brain fog and not brain damage? Does anyone know?

Is it possible that the brain damage from the strokes has caused the brain fog? The best thing to do is speak with your GP & they can test to see if there is anything else going on.

I don’t know how old you are but brain fog can come with getting older. I would definitely get checked over by your GP to help put your mind at rest.

Thanks much. Yes, I havebeen seeing GP. Will be seeing a neurologist in Aug for a new MRI for 2nd opinion. Original neurologist said it wasn’t from the stroke but that was 2 years ago. Iam 68. Ive been trying everything and have come down to the last medication that is notorious for brain fogs my GP said which is the cholesterol statin meds. I talked to a pharmacist, and she said a new type had come out because of the problems with the stuff I was taking so I am now on that and it has been 4 weeks. But I have been on the other med for 2 years. So it can take a while to get out of your system. So it can take a while to get out of your system. I was hoping once I stopped that, it would get better.. but it is hard to say if it is even changing. It has been a long journey. The last time I went to a neurologist, she said, I was all healed from the stroke. So the brain fog wasn’t the stroke, but never did MRI. So now I am having that done just in case

Thanks so much for your input. This forum has been fantastic.

Hopefully the MRI & neurology appointment will provide you with some answers.

It could take a while for you to notice if the change of statins is having an effect. Fingers crossed it works.

Mikedob-- I had a stroke 5 1/2 years ago. Since it’s been so long since the event I really don’t remember exactly, but it seems to me that I had brain fog for a very long time-- maybe 1 1/2 to 2 or 3 years. As time went on it was an on /off thing. Eventually it went away. But even now, if I overdo or am very tired I feel a little foggy ( but it’s very rare.) So, it is possible that your brain is just “tired” from all the hard work it is doing in an effort to heal and to perform its duties. Be sure you’re not trying to do too much and be sure to get adequate sleep. The brain likes that. Hope you perk up soon. :slightly_smiling_face: :heart:Jeanne

I am 11 months post stroke and I fight brain fog all of the time. I did the same thing- we changed meds to see if what I was taking was causing the brain fog. None caused the brain fog. I am convinced it is absolutely due to the stroke, especially since I did not have it at all before the stroke. Some days are better than others, some days are really hard. It took me 10 months to accept that the brain fog was not the beginning of another stroke, just my “new normal” because of the stroke. I am learning how to push through the brain fog when it happens. For me, when the brain fog starts, I do things to distract myself, such as reading a favorite book, listening to upbeat music, going for a walk or the gym. If it happens at work, I take a break, go for a quick walk, or dive into a project to distract my mind. When I forget about, I almost feel normal. Almost. I have made it a personal challenge to push through each episode of brain fog and beat it. Every time I do it, it is a personal victory for me. I don’t want the brain fog to rule my life. I want every day I have left to be full and meaningful, and the brain fog just gets in the way if I let it. I pray that some day it will go away, but if it doesn’t, I will fight it every step of the way. God has given me the incredible gift of surviving the stroke I am trying not to waste a second of it.

 - I applaud this and I like very much what you have said about your experience with brain fog, how you are managing it and how you plan not to let it ruin your life.

You carry on with your plan and it will go away!

God helps the man who helps himself.

God does not discriminate and so God also helps the woman who helps herself

God helps the child who helps themself

Wishing you all the best and God bless you!

Thank you all so much! Narrowed out medications and 2nd opinion believes its not a brain fog but coming fron an eye I have been having injections for CRVO. Which has brought down swelling so now waiting to see a nurlogical optometrist on Dec 2. The new cholesterol med is Rosuvastatin which didnt help.
