-- Better Off Dead? -- no to Assisted Suicide -- an issue important to us all --

Hello to you too @IanM

I don’t see any posts from you, if it has been hidden, then that explains it.
It could have been hidden because it breaks the rules in some way. I am only guessing.
If there is a message asking you to change your post then editing it to suit the rules will make it visible again. There are rules about certain words and a message with the post will explain.
I can’t be more specific as I don’t see the issue. Maybe rewording the post will sort it out.

All of this is in an attempt to make the forum a stress free and friendly place.

Unfortunately this thread is about an issue which does cause disagreement.

I should have realised this would happen.

There are a number of responsible forum members who have had posts hidden having become involved in the argument this has provoked.

Although freedom of speech is a great thing, there is a time and a place for everything.

I think it is important to view what Liz Carr has to say but that was never intended as incentive to produce strife here.

If you have an argument about politics then I suggest addressing it to a politician might be the way to go. Debate and turmoil here will produce nothing. Send your energy where it will have useful effect.

I say this because as much as speaking out is important sometimes a little consideration for those hearing what we say might be in order.

I don’t want to delve any deeper here into what is a very weighty subject, so, again I will stop now.

As I said once before:

Maybe what I want to say is:

STOP and think !!!
:stop_sign:

I don’t want to use this forum as a political platform, so without apology, I will yet again withdraw from this discussion reminding you to watch the Liz Carr presentation.

@Bobbi I believe you did the right thing by posting the link to the Liz Carr documentary. It needed to be seen and I hope many others will watch it. We’re all adults here and can indulge in adult discussion without strife, I’m sure😁

From a dilettantish, anthropological perspective moderating on that site is certainly interesting. I don’t have a final say, a post or reply gets flagged, it then goes to a three tier vote between neighbourhood leads, and then I believe it goes to Nextdoor admin to have the final say. There are three options, keep, remove and maybe remove. I put in a reason for my choice and leave it at that, but I do like negotiating that balance between context, freedom of expression, privacy, flippancy, and hate speech. I consider these things to be akin to social experiments because of the infancy of it, and the mode in which it is conducted; reading and writing.

@SimonInEdinburgh Happy to see you post this, Simon. I was feeling a little guilty yesterday after receiving 4 notifications from Admin. I was debating whether I should apologise for my contributions to the conversations as I know I like to rock the boat now and again so I do apologise if I’ve upset or offended anyone. In my defence, although I was “off topic” for bringing abortion into the suicide and assisted dying topic, I personally felt it bore some relevance in that it highlights how quickly we’re moving towards a mindset that devalues and dehumanises the elderly, disabled and extremely vulnerable.

The other posts of mine that were removed by Admin were the ones about stroke and covid shots. I was advised they’d been flagged by the community and don’t align with the information provided by the Stroke Association which is, I would imagine, the official narrative.

I’ve no idea why @EmeraldEyes and @DeAnn have had their posts held🤷🏻‍♀️

You don’t even need my 2 cents because you nailed it all with your 3 cents.

I’m okay, friend.

Just came back from a long cruise in the Caribbean. It was super nice, but I found it terribly exhausting.

I am so sorry it was exhausting but certainly hope it was amazing at the same time! Good to see you.

Nice to hear from you again.

How have you been? Are you having more ups than downs, or the other way around?

Please take good care of yourself.

I totally agree with what you said Simon, WE the community should moderate the forum. When I first joined it was a sociable space, we could freely discuss whatever was on our mind or what was troubling us.

I am okay. Quite a few downs but we shall get to the right conclusions eventually. I have more than stroke going on, so I doubt my current issues are much to do with stroke. Probabaly some, but will work out once I figure out the other problem.

You have always been so inspiring, I was quite happy to see your name pop up. I hope you are also inspired and taking great care of yourself. Enjoying all that you can.

Dear DeAnn,

I don’t like hearing that you’re having some other problems.

I just want to help others like you through your difficult times. I know what strokes do to people as my mother had one a few years ago. I saw her suffer mentally in tremendous ways, but I was able to relieve her mental suffering the way I wanted to. But, we do the best we can for those we love. In the end, we all have our limitations. That said, I will always extend my hand to others with strokes to comfort them in any way possible, even if I’m just an internet stranger.

By the way, your courage to continue every day is inspiring to me. And I want you to never give up and keep going forward with your head held up high.

Please take good care of yourself, and let me know how things turn out for you.

Always wishing you peace, health and happiness,

Matthew

I watched this recently and want to share it with you all as it offers hope. I’ve posted under ‘Better off dead? ‘ because the video is relevant to that topic.

A gentle reminder - don’t get political😉
