a strange time. I am fed up of this stroke ( aided by its mate Afib). Sick of waking up and realising a
day is the potential. Tired of chest aching. Permanent Afib bouncing in tbe chest. Imbalance, legs feel week and tired of the fatigue ( though the sleeping because of fatigue offers respite.
Fed up with doctor saying , it my age, chest sounds clear, drugs controlling the Stroke and Afib
No there is no reason to scan anything or checks to do.
Having days were you just think what’s the point and feel crap and crave the sleep at night.
I sleep a good 7 hrs a night and its become the best time.
I am not depressed I am fed up of not having a normal day. I am aware that I survived in a better place physically than some, but 5 years of this wears you down.
If this is surviving a stroke it feels like a
outcome some days but lucky on others.
sounds promising to me! sweet dreams ![]()
Firstly @Al59, well done for letting it all out with this post. I hope that by doing so you feel better because sometimes that is all it takes to make us feel better.
Five years is a long time to dealing with what you are dealing with and as you have made it thus far, you should feel good about it. It’s good you are not depressed and I would suggest it is good you recognise you are fed up because this allows you to continue to fight which is what you are doing, and doing so well.
Perhaps now, you can think back of what you have achieved since you first had the stroke five years ago and write them down - share these positives with us on this forum if you would like, but otherwise, just write them down in your own private notebook / journal so that you can remind yourself of what you have achieved and how far you have come.
Sleep is an important part of stroke recovery and if you are able to a good seven hours this is fantastic and you can build on this. We have mentioned recently on this forum cat naps and power naps during the day. Maybe you can take a power nap during the day as this will be an additional aid to your health and well being ![]()
Well done and keep going ![]()
For anyone who missed the original “I am Fed up” here it is …
It’s a good point. What are good things
I survived the stroke , I recovered very well physically. I can walk the dog twice a day ( be it at a slower pace) I have been lucky and for that I am grateful. I keep pushing the GP to offer more, to understand I would like to increase exercise etc but Strokey and Afibby get together and I end up asleep with fatigue. (As I said sleep is my happy place so not all bad)
There are a lot more people who face more than me daily I am sure and so I know I should be grateful. I think that is part of why I am not depressed. But the aches, pains, restrictions in doing things day in day out just wears you done to an extent.
On a final positive note My Ukrainian family are now back in UK (dont get me started on the Ukraine War) which means my 10yr old ‘ grandaughter’ is back to annoy me ( along with my grandson 2yr who we have every thursday)
So not all bad
Well @Al59 , I’m Fed Up as well and your post has motivated me to write about it. Thank you because I need to get it off my chest, so to speak. No sympathy needed or wanted - we all know what it’s like. I’m sorry you’re still Fed Up. 5 yrs is a long time. I’m Fed Up after 3 and that’s bad enough.
Sunday week ago, I went for a 2 mile walk with hubby in our local country park. A few days before that, I’d gone shopping and didn’t want to go home ( I’d managed to get out - doesn’t happen often, only happens in short bursts and I was enjoying myself despite being in pain ). So I called my ‘adopted’ daughter to check she was home and drove over for a visit. I stayed for a few hours. Had a great time.
Last Tuesday, I had my third chiro appointment. All went well, as had the previous appointments. Next day, I didn’t feel so good. I don’t feel good on any day but this was a different level of not feeling good. It’s continued up until now and I’m needing to rest most of the time which is driving me nuts.
I have to weigh up the pros and cons whenever I have any kind of therapy because most interaction with the stroke arm/shoulder aggravates it and no-one has an answer for why. The arm is functional but feels like it’s encased in a thick glove. It feels tight and heavy and numb and full of pins and needles, especially the hand, yet my fine motor skills are pretty good; I can thread a needle and cotton for example. Since that last chiro session, the arm is tired all the time. My neck and shoulder are more uncomfortable than before. It might be nothing to do with the chiro. It could just be another flare up which might last 2 or 3 weeks and then I’ll wake up one day and feel different and be able to go out again until next time. I’ve definitely seen a pattern and I’m hoping that’s all this is. If it doesn’t improve, I’ll be more than Fed Up.
There’s other stuff going on as well but the arm/shoulder are the most annoying because they’re affecting gait. Walking is one of the ways I cope and I can quite easily manage 5,000+ steps daily walking indoors but not at the moment. I managed 1500 yesterday and that was a push.
I’m not depressed, I’m not anxious, I’m simply Fed Up. I also only found out recently that I had a Lacunar stroke. I’d been told a lot of things about the type of stroke I had but no-one had actually named it. I’m Fed Up about that, too. Not sure why.
I had a message from the GP a few weeks back telling me I’m now on the register for CKD stage 3a which would’ve been a shock if I hadn’t already known my eGFR had been borderline for the last 13yrs - not because I was told but because I found the blood test results a few years ago in my filing cabinet. I’d had no idea until then. I could be Fed Up over that but actually, I’m not. My eGFR has only changed by a few points in 13 yrs despite having a stroke and unmanaged hypertension for 10 of those years. It could be a lot worse. I don’t have diabetes or insulin resistance, my heart is fine, my Triglycerides to HDL ratio is an optimal 0.71. I have a lot to be thankful for but I’m Fed Up with feeling rubbish because I had a stroke and I don’t know if feeling rubbish is going to be the norm for the rest of my life. It looks like it could be but I try not to think about it too much. I think I’ve decided no more therapies - Just get on with life and try to enjoy what I have. I might change my mind but right now that’s how I’m feeling.
Rant over.
Trace
Its never a rant . Its telling how we feel, what we put up with and the seemingly less and less support and help from the medical profession.
We all keep going but to say we are fed up is okay to do.
