I did a bit more digging and found that the American Stroke Association promotes BE FAST, adding Balance and Eyes to FAST.
I think there could be far greater savings from catching and preventing health issues before they have catastrophic consequences, but sadly that doesn’t fit with the spreadsheet mentality that prevails in the NHS.
I was given that information from I person called on Chest Heart and Stroke don’t ask the persons name I have short term memory loss, I certainly just didn’t make it up.
I was given that information from someone I spoke to at chest heart and stroke.
I was given that information from someone I spoke with at chest heart and stroke.
It won’t fit unless everyone gets the same warning l was just describing what happened to me prior to my stroke and wondered if anyone had something out of the ordinary prior to their stroke and one or two described something unusual to them but you don’t put two and two together sometimes. I’m sure not everyone experiences anything.
Huge savings, regular tests for things like breast and prostrate cancer probably save hundreds of thousands. The strokes I had couldn’t have been prevented as they were caused by trauma but more thorough testing and evaluation of patient’s holistic health could prevent triggers from going off or possible causes but the trouble with the complexity of the human body is sometimes what a person didn’t have last week is what they developed the following week and so on, so tests and health monitoring for patients can only do so much.
Look I was only describing my experience end of, this forum is not worth the hassle.
@Scotia - I am not sure if there is a misunderstanding here.
There is no hassle and no one is questioning or challenging what you shared with us. By you sharing your experiences or by us sharing our experiences we are helping each other. Often when someone mentions something, it can trigger a discussion, as has been the case by you mentioning that someone had told you the FAST campaign ad might be stopped.
This is fine and it is healthy to have a discussion. Surely that is a good thing? Where is the hassle you are seeing?
So far, you, me, @harimanjaro and @Rups have all given our thoughts on this and they are what we know or what we have experienced. There is nothing wrong with that and there is no right or wrong.
This forum welcomes views from all its members and we are free to choose what we read, what we respond to or what new topic we wish to the table.
Please don’t think anyone is being hassled and I really hope you don’t feel you are being hassled. All that has happened is you have triggered a vey healthy discussion on how the FAST campaign might be improved.
In the end, I can only say, I have never found this forum to be a hassle. For me personally, it is one of, if not the best support group for me as a carer and for my Mum as a stroke survivor. We have benefitted from this more than any other groups or healthcare professionals.
Long may this forum continue to provide the wonderful support that is fairly unique, probably anywhere.
I definitely don’t think you made anything up, @Scotia. You can only pass on what you know or were told. I saw in another post that you were asking how to delete your account. That’s entirely your choice, but I’d be sad to see you go - you offer a valuable perspective to this community. If anything I’ve said contributed to your decision then I apologise. I never wanted to seem to be doubting your word.
@Scotia - I echo everything that @harimanjaro has said.
This is just a misunderstanding and you shouldn’t let this influence your decision as to whether to stay with us or leave. Misunderstandings can happen so often but when they are done in writing they seem worse and takes longer to address. If we were talking about this, the matter would have been clarified in an instance and no one would have felt they were being hassled.
Ultimately, it is your choice, but being a member of this form does mean occasionally misunderstandings will arise. This is normal because the membership is so disparate. Some members have difficulty writing, reading, length of passages etc. etc. For some, English is not their mother tongue and things can lost in translation and then there are people who are more sensitive than others - this is just normal as it is in world outside of this forum.
Compared to the outside world, this forum is a godsend for many!
Thank you for your contributions to date and both myself and @harimanjaro would love for you to keep on adding value to this forum, but we do believe and respect it is your choice ![]()
It’s fine I felt like I was sharing my experience and just felt under attack I know nothing about strokes apart from my own experience, and just wanted to know if anyone experienced a unusual episode prior to. That all I was asking
Anyway thank you for your time.
A misunderstanding to be sure, we were all going off on our own tangents relating to but not directly from any one opinion.
This I can directly say that I did. I had three months of unusual episodes, sadly they were misdiagnosed as BPPV. I can backtrack and recognise when at least two out of the four strokes occurred.
I would never want you or anyone to feel like that, especially after all you have been through. I’m glad that the misunderstanding has been cleared up, and thank you for your experiences.
