Battery powered lawnmowers

Today I decided to invest in a batter lawnmower and strimmer. As I m keen to have a go myself as part of my rehab journey.

Ami mad as I feel the shame of my poor wife doing that which I always did and did it well.

Hi , as a recovering stroke victim myself, I hope that you have not bought Ryobi machines. The strimmer is not too bad, but the lawnmower is a Child’s toy. Ryobi claim that a battery will last for 150 sq m. I have a small 48 sq. M. Of grass and it takes three fully charged batteries to cut short grass. Very best of luck with yours.

Not mad at all. I have a Worx one that I’m very happy with. Batteries can be interchanged with other tools in their range.

Yes tipping it down here too and we have yet to charge the batteries and assemble the mower so weather permitting the weekend looks a likely time for a test cut

Mark - You are absolutely doing the right thing.
It is good for your rehab and it is good for your wife.
There is nothing mad about it

@brianr24743 - I have seen so many adverts of Ryobi products and they look so impressive, but I did wonder if they really can be “masters” of all these different tools. The key selling point is their one battery can be used on all their tools.

Have you challenged Ryobi on this? Under the trade description act, I would have thought this would be an incorrect claim to make. It is not fit for purpose if it requires 3 battery changes to do one third of the area it claims to be able to do.

One other thing comes to mind which is how old is the battery? I know technology has improved a lot, but rechargeable batteries for not last forever. For example, I have had to replace my laptop batteries in the past when they stopped holding charge.

If it is an old battery, you may need to check to see how long it takes to charge or think back to how long the battery used to last when new etc.

I’ve opted for STHL and the battery is interchangeable with the strimmer It’s quoted as doing 200meters of lawn cutting. We will see I have got a spare battery in case it only does the lawns.

All assembled now batteries charging
Just set fo a weekend of lawn cutting

The results

Test ed out in kitchen with all working.

Having got the front done tomorrow I get a go on the back a high cut to start with, reducing clogging and will lower the cut after a general level is created.

I think you will like it!

We recently bought a lovely battery operated mower and it’s great. Easy to use, stores very well and cuts just fine.

I had purchased the lawnmower and strimmer direct from Ryobi, I did challenge them and the sent me a new battery which was no better. At the time I was just out of hospital and was not up to a fight with Ryobi. My son has since bought me the Ryobi hedge trimmer and that appears to be working well with the same interchangeable batteries.
