My aphasia is annoying, frustrating, a nuisance, but never have I thought it funny. Picture this; I was patrolling the garden armed with secateurs when a lady stopped and asked me what one of my plants was. I told her they were Chinese Lanterns. (I know they are physalis but did not attempt to say it). At present they have the green globes on, so I started to explain that in the autumn they will turn a deep red- orange colour. I was trying to tell her that there is an edible variety that you sometimes get on desserts in a posh restaurant. I was describing them; (persons of a sensitive nature please look away). I said they are papery thin, then my brain stopped! All I could think of was the round shape. ‘Balls,’ came bursting out of my mouth. She looked astounded and started to walk away. I called her back to explain about my stroke and the aphasia. She started to smile then we both burst out laughing. The plants spread with underground runners, she said she just had to have some, and would be delighted to use my description. I have promised to give her some when I thin them out later in the year. I think I have found a kindred spirit. Best wishes all Norma751

And why not have a laugh at things like that. Humour gets me through the times when im being frustrated by my stroke affects.
I’ve had a day of not being able to find words and have spent most of the day describing things to my colleagues. It gave them a chuckle at least
Hopefully your kindred spirit will be back for her Chinese lanterns later in the year.
