Yorker - a cricketing term to describe a ball that is bowled so that it pitches under the bat.
Origins not known to me, but likely there is a link to York which is a Yorkshire town and Yorkshire cricket club may have had bowlers who bowled this type of ball?
An alternative explanation is that it is from the slang “york” which is a form of cheating.
Personally, I think bowling a corker that is a yorker is a skill and hence not in any way, shape or form cheating.

Isn’t that strange? I was talking to the milkman yesterday about chickens bums, free range or not. Free range are out of my league.
