Another milestone today

Since my stroke I have had to give up a lot of my old hobbies, and given away many bits of my stash! However, the man in my life is a member of the Clay Pigeon Preservation Society; (he misses most of ‘em!). He has just joined a ‘society’, (don’t ask). One of the things he has now is a flipping’ fabric badge. Guess which mug was asked to sew it on? For almost two years I have been unable to hold a needle because of my hand restrictions. I used to love sewing, crochet, and watercolour painting, all of which I had thought was beyond me.
I can now reveal to my adoring public, (tee hee) that the badge is now attached to the jacket and does not look like a demented spider has sewn it on. Trouble is now I’ll be asked to do other stuff that I have managed to get away with, or not been able to do, according to who’s side you’re on.
But to hold a needle again was magic. I’m glad I tried. Best wishes Norma

Yay :clap::clap::partying_face::partying_face::partying_face: worth a celebration that is. Although you won’t have an excuse not to darn those socks or hem the trousers now.

I bet hubby is very pleased with his new badge too & will no doubt shout from hhe rooftops how proud he is that you were able to sew the badge on his jacket despite uour stroke.

Well done you! I can’t manage hand sewing any more. I have to do everything on my sewing machine. It’s quite frustrating when all you want to do is a simple (what used to be) 5 minute stitching job, but instead have to set up the machine with the right colour thread/bobbin etc. Grrrrr! (It’s either that or stick it with Wunderweb!)

Darn socks? Hem trousers? Sorry I don’t speak that language! Minnie B mentions wundaweb, if that doesn’t work the trousers get binned. My biggest regret really is that I can’t crochet any more. Best wishes Norma

I have a very nice sewing machine Minnie, I used to do quilting and all sorts with it. At the moment I can’t even thread the darned thing! I have one of very clever needle threaders, but because I haven’t used the machine for so long I think all the works have got gummed up. It will need a good old service before I can use it again. But I have disposed of most of my fabric stuff so I would have to start all over again. I’m not sure now though that I want to. Very sad eh? I agree that its such a faff to get the machine threaded and so on; I lose the will to live by the time I’ve done all that! Yes three cheers for good old wundaweb, I have used it a lot in the past. Best wishes Norma

I use wundaweb too. I can’t sew, knit or crochet although my mum & sister can do them well.

I had a milestone of my own last Thursday - sorry to switch hobbies o this thread. I took the kids to the dry Ski slope and went on the nursery slopes. I’ve never fallen over so much since I was last on the nursery slopes 40 odd years ago. Although it wasn’t hot I sweated so much my shirt was dripping wet. Still I had the best hour and a half in ages. I never thought I’d Ski again after my Stroke in March 24 and was told I’d be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. Though it was very frustrating - I’m sure everyone here will know the feeling of knowing what to do (physically). but not quite being able to execute - I had a whale of a time.

Go steady everyone x

Good to hear of your milestone SammHailly. No problem about ‘switching hobbies’ it’s always good to hear of our members achievement, be they big or small. To us it’s a huge step forward isn’t it? Sounds like you had a fabulous day on the slopes. You made me smile as I am not a skier. The only time I went on the piste, I spent more time on my backside that upright! But the gluhwein and hot chocolate was heavenly. Lovely to hear of your enjoyment. Best wishes Norma

That’s fantastic @SammHaillay what a great achievement for you.
