Alcohol after stroke

I mix my wine with sparkling water. It makes chardonnay tate a little like champagne. I like the lemon and lime, but plain would be good too. Jeanne

@Apple I cannot drink alcohol anymore, if I did partake in a glass of vino it brings on a seizure, plus my medication to control seizures states avoid alcohol. I have found some decent wines that have zero alcohol in. I also need to check food as well

Hello Apple
I am just like you. I used to like a glass of red wine with a good meal. I asked my doctor if I could have a small glass on Christmas day to toast the King and also the NHS who has done so much for me. Yes but only with your meal was the reply, wow it was disgusting, tasted horrible and like you went straight to my head and made me giddy just after a few sips.
One way to look at it is, we will save money.
Hope your recovery goes on ok.

I wasnā€™t a great drinker before the stroke and am even less of one now - makes me too dizzy, but I did enjoy some Baileys over Christmas

Really is! Hard to explain and understand at times

Thatā€™s weird - watched the Panorama programme about Long Covid yesterday - I did feel sorry for the people affected but there are plenty of other conditions that have wierd, unpleasant side effects too

Shwmae @SimonInEdinburgh, are you sure you havenā€™t been having scrambled eggs during Easter?

Also enjoy ā€œSt Peters Withoutā€ and ā€œPeroniā€ if you want a lager

Heineken 0% for me, its realky quite decent

I thought Drop Bear Beerā€™s alcohol free Bonfire Stout was excellent. I ordered it online because it isnā€™t available in my local shops.

Iā€™ve had a few of those brewing mishaps. Stacked eight bottles of wild strawberry wine in the wine cupboard. Thought it had finished itā€™s fermentation, had a few balmy days, temperature rose, fermentation revived. Wine cupboard floor covered in a sweet layer of strawberry scented wine.

Aye it is. I had a can tonight, very pleasant. I shared a can with a friend of mine, I poured him half a glass, and me the other half. After about half an hour of chatting and drinking, I revealed to him it was alcohol free. He was surprised, and by a twinkle in his eye, betrayed? :joy:

I used to be a heavy drinker. That changed post stroke, Iā€™d have the odd glass of red and an occasional g&t. Gradually, those occasional drinks became more frequent.

So on October 31st last year, totally out of the blue, I said to myself this glass of red will be my last. It was. Iā€™m now 103 days alcohol free.

But, as others have mentioned, there are some good alcohol free drinks now. My favourite is Corona Zero. I cannot taste any difference.

So, after this chosen abstinence, youā€™d expect me to wax lyrical about my health improvement. In truth, itā€™s done bugger all! :joy:
