Hello, I’m 42 I had been recently diagnosed with a silent stroke from a MRI scan due to a failed vision field loss test. I had spoke a stroke consultant who told me that it had happened in the last 3 years. To provide a bit of context I am overweight with a BMI of 35 and I have got high blood pressure (which I thought wasn’t serious). I have also had four medical operations during this time. I am now on statins for cholesterol and blood thinners and now taking my blood pressure meds properly.
One of my consultant letters states that I have vascular insufficieny and extensive areas of hyperperfusion.
I am now on a waiting list for more tests to ascertain the cause but I am really confused what this all means for me and whether I have slowed down in some way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?
@b1ink3r3d Hi & welcome to the community.
Sorry you’ve had cause to join us.
As Simon has stated statins & blood thinners are standard post stroke along with BP meds if necessary. It soubds like they are going to sort all the tests you need to try & get to the bottom of what’s going on.
The vascular insufficiency & hyperfusion all sound like they are related to how your blood travels around your body & to your heart.
Managing your risk factors will help reduce yiur risks as much as possible but they will never be zero. It sounds like you’ve made a good start with that.
A stroke can slow you down. I know everything I do is much slower now. But then I used to do everything at 100 mph.
Sorry for the delay in responding. All this has come as a complete shock and I have been wrestling with questions regarding notifying the DVLA as it left me with “vison field loss” (no loss of driving skill) Thanks all for your advice
