Hi there, Would appreciate any help or advice when purchasing a chair for my husband to sit in, comfortable but supportive, are rise and recliners all the sane or are their any specific ones more appropriate post stroke , his stroke happened back in February this year, after staying in hospital and then rehabilitation, he’s home which is great but daunting at the same time, any help really appreciated

Hello KC - nice to meet you and welcome to the community.
In our case, the RR / Tilt and Space chair was provided by the NHS under the care package. I can’t therefore offer specific advice other than to say maybe speak with your OT or physiotherapist or the care team supporting your husband post discharge from hospital.
The chairs do vary and in our case, because Mum is extra petite (XXS), the smallest chair they had and that was provided was still too big and so we had to pad out with cushions and pillows to make it more comfortable. I expect you can get made-to-measure if you are able to afford a privately sourced chair.
That’s pretty much all I can suggest for now.

Hi @KayC1967 sorry to hear of your husband’s stroke, welcome to our community. I hope you will find this a useful place to be. We are a merry band of stroke survivors and their carers and families and between us we have a wealth of experience and information to share.
I have no personal experience of using a rise/recliner chair but I understand that they are made to measure and have stores nationwide and will also do free home visits. Have you spoken to your husband’s Occupational Therapist ? I’m sure they would be able to advise you and may supply a chair through the NHS. I don’t know but I would imagine the chairs are expensive to buy. HSL advertise regularly and the chairs look very nice.
As you say, having your husband home is lovely but also very daunting. When I was discharged from hospital after 5 months, I don’t know who was more nervous, my husband or me!!!
Things will settle down, try not to think too far ahead, take each day as it comes and be patient and be kind to each other. Stroke has a devastating effect on everyone not just the stroke survivor.
Jump on here and ask away if you have any questions or you just need a shoulder to cry on or if you need a rant about something. We’ve all been there and there will always be someone around to offer some words of wisdom or advice.
