Hi all
I was moved by this story in a Facebook group this morning, so sharing it here. This young woman went from locked in syndrome to going back work. Shes on Australia and has given me permission to share her words below…
Hey guys, I may have posted in here before but mum has sent me all her footage recently it’s given me some emotions.
As many might have seen im 22 years old that was diagnosed with locked in syndrome so I was basically paralysed but worse I couldn’t speak.
So I said yes and no with my eyes. I had quite the journey as I went through 3 different hospitals. 5 wards and 8 rooms within 8 months. I was thankful as im the youngest of 4.
My mum had come every day for 8 months and she’s the reason they let me leave eventually without her I see me still in their. Something so many of us have heard was whatever movement we get is in 6 months.
But that’s not true for a few months I could hardly move after 2 months of no movement what so ever. But as they had told me to my face I’ll forever be bed ridden my support system especially my family never gave up.
When I couldn’t move they had full control of my arms they would brush my arms, Massage my arms and legs and that first movement wasn’t even controlled I wiggled my toes and both parents were there had they been so thrilled they told me to do it again but for ages I couldn’t do anything on demand after months of staring at my limbs telling them to just move already.
It’s been 10 months tomorrow and I’ve accomplished 1 of my goals, going back to work! I’m actually a vehicle spraypainter and thankfully I’ve got enough function to prep cars up while I can’t paint right now but I’m so thrilled and grateful.
Its been about 6 months for me to stop clawing my left hand into everything I’ve slowly gained control of opening my hand out straight as for months it’d only open if others open it up.
I’m still making achievements and I’m only here to say how much it is possible when you don’t give up.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise when most haven’t done this themselves happy Wednesday everyone
