World Turned Upside Down By My Wife's Unexpected Stroke

Hi All

A good day for Jan, and something to shout about!

Jan told me she has now replaced her quad stick for a normal walking stick - and has proceeded to walk to physio, climb a flight of stairs 3 times and walk back to her wardsmileysmiley (go girl!!)

1 more night to go

Best Regards

Graham

I have avoided a fall. Every time i move, i will have my safety back up. In the garden I push a fork into the soil so that i can avoid a fall. I tumble and stumble, but i really could do without a harmful fall.

i am fairly fit, not overweight etc, but my brain is not well connected to my feet. Four plus years and i still have to fight to stand up, especially if i sit on the floor.

another dry and sunny day down here. We need rain and lots of it.

Hi Graham,

That is amazing progress.

Keep up the good work Jan!!

Kind regards

Kay

Wow Jan's progress has been amazing.

Good luck for tomorrow and get the tissues ready, it's bound to be an emotional day for you both.

Ann.

Care and attention are the order of the day

You can have some of the rain here in Yorkshire!!

Graham

Hi Kay

Amazed at Jans progress (touch wood)

I did not include in my last post that Jan told me she has today put her hand on the bed table and wiggled all the fiingers and even moved the wrist a littlesmiley

(I was told by the consultant that the left hand will be the biggest challenge)

Thanks for your best wishes - and I have my lists handy

Best Regards

Graham

Thanks Ann - tissues on standby

(When I visited last saturday emotions ran high!)

Best Regards

Graham

Hi Graham and Jan,

Good luck with today hope everything goes smoothly.  Including getting the discharge letter and meds from pharmacy.

Jan your progress has been incredible, but you know it didn't just happen. You got results through your determination and effort.

Keep up your good work and who knows your lists may have shopping lists written on the back of them soon.

There will be tears and tantrums on both sides. For you Jan it's your stroke and for Graham it's usually the pain of seeing you have to work so hard. And there's nothing he can do to take that burden away.

Find time to be yourselves,  be honest with each other. Most importantly continue this amazing team work.

It's not easy but nothing in life worth achieving is easy.

Enjoy the first day of your new journey.

Kind regards

Kay

Thankyou Kay for your very kind comments and I will make sure Jan sees you comments

(Still waiting for Jan to be 'released' , rang up earlier for a definition of lunchtime release!! - I know patience)

Best Regards

Graham

Graham,

You need first to establish the length of a nurse's minute.  I know I'm a retired nurse LoL

patience is a virtue - arrived safe and sound (even though the patient service bust got lost)

Regards

Graham

Afternoon All

A quick note to say Jan 'walked' in the front door yesterday afternoon yesyes

I will keep you all posted

Best Regards

Graham

Great to hear you are home Jan. Try not to do too much these first few days. Slow and steady that will be enough for now.

Ann

Fantastic!

Good luck with the start of your new normal

Kay

Welcome home Jan!  Life will seem a little strange at first but you will soon settle in to your new routine.  All the best to you bothyes

Welcome home Jan! Please take things easy. If you need to rest, rest. So happy for you.

I will join the queue to say welcome home Jan  hope you settle quick I know you will. Love and best wishes Norma.

Lovely to hear you're home, Jan. It is a surreal time but soon changes to the new normal without you realising it. At least that's what happened to us. Little steps but big celebrations with each one! Take care,

Veronica and John xx

Welcome home Jan! Wishing you both the best. Take care. ☺

I have a pen friend near Chesterfield and my best mate lives in Cheshire. They have promised me some their rain.  I noticed today that Manchester was wet, but arrid essex, dry and hot. I do live in a rain shadow where two rivers estuaries meet and apparently that deflects the rain clouds. Even the winter was fairly dry when floods were battering up north. Indeed even parts of essex flooded, but not here.

i am so pleased jan is home. Progress. Progress.
