World stroke day 29th Oct

Hi @All

The 29th Oct is ‘world stroke day

Some questions for you:

What can you do/ we do - to promote it this year with little notice and subsequent years (with a lot of notice?)

What do you think are the pros and cons of having a world stroke day ?

Do you think of the Stroke Association would gain value & a sense of inclusion if it had asked us the community what messages we would include in any press releases/ messaging/ activities/ etal. ?

All thoughts welcome

There definitely should be a world stroke day for those who are facing it alone or those who might think to donate some cash to research into Strokes. I haven’t forgotten the shock I felt.

It would have been nice to be consulted about our opinions of course. Do you think many people here would have responded to a request for our opinions?

Interested to see what others think.

In a previous year I had been asked if my story could be used as part of World Stroke Day. This was from a different part of the Stroke Association. I can’t remember who or whether that was last year or year before now. I assume that they have done the same this year.

I guess a lot depends on the purpose behind World Stroke Day. Which i haven’t had chance to look at and won’t get chance to look at this year due to work commitments. I did see something from Different Strokes the other day asking people to share their stories on social media channels i think.

Hi all

It’s great to see this conversation about World Stroke Day.

As part of the upcoming campaign for World Stroke Day the Stroke Association has involved many stroke survivors in their World Stroke day campaign.

The Online Community is a platform for peer support and we ask that involvement requests are directed to the correct place.

I hope this helps to clarify.

Please do continue the conversation about World Stroke Day and how this can help the community.

Unfortunately, that was a complete waste of time to look at, since there are currently no opportunities listed.

This is so absolutely frustrating to me. Why is it so hard to join a volunteer opportunity?

I have no reason, now, to care about World Stroke Day. It could have been so helpful to discuss and share research, fundraising, what works and does not work as there are so many differences around the world in prevention and care, and even in fundraising.

Why is it so hard to care about actual humans? I heartily understand getting out the message to people about prevention, about services, and I know that takes donors. But where is the information for those living with stroke, other than join a local group? Certainly if you can get to one, and they aren’t all centered on their life being over.

Why am I being told I can talk about WorlStroke Day in a positive manner, but have to go to sign up for non existent opportunities to engage in opinions that are less positive? Is it not helpful to know what isn’t working? Such as, being unaware, uninformed in advance of the day… perhaps we could have busied ourselves with events for both awareness as well as funding, instead of having this conversation.

I think you may have misunderstood the purpose of the post. Its opening and encouraging a discussion with the “community” on this particular topic.

Normally the SA give the community a timely reminder of this event. But for whatever reason, we seem to have been overlooked this year.
And we can’t complete an involvement form without first being informed

Don’t quite understand the need to remind us of community and peer support. Seems a little off topic. And I thought that’s what we are doing, but thankyou anyway.
