Wife Has Had a Slight Stroke

@Del80 Repetition is the key. The brain prioritises those tasks we do regularly. I know it’s hard when you’re fatigued but daily repetition is so important.

When I had my stroke my limbs on the affected side felt so heavy that I could hardly lift them but 9 months on my left stroke side is nearly as good as my right and the heaviness has gone.

And it’s true that the more you exercise the less tired you get as it becomes easier.

Well, Martha seems to be getting better day by day…tomorrow she starts on Clopidogrel, which I know is a blood thinner, as I was on it for years…was just wondering, after having a slight stroke, what the chances of having another are ?..

It’s very difficult to answer that. Some people do have more than 1 stroke many people don’t.

Clopidogrel will help lower the risk, as will eating a healthy diet, exercising, limiting alcohol intake, not smoking etc.

As time moves forward i think the risk of another reduces & becomes no greater than for someone who hasn’t had a stroke.

My advice is try not to worry about that. Life is for living. No one knows what’s arouns the corner thankfully.

Best wishes

Thanks for the reply…she does seem to be doing rather well, but gets tired very easily, and very frustrated at not being able to do things she used to do…a friend gave us one bit of advice which seems to sum it up …“Focus on what you CAN do, not on what you CAN’T”…I guess time will tell…

Your friends advice is spot on. I think we all spend too much time focussing on what we can’t do rather than what we can.

The fatigue will ease in time although it is difficult to see that when you’re in the middle of it all.

Be patient things will continue to get better.
