TWO! milestones in one day (2 days in a row)

Hi All

This morning, just like every morning of the 4yrs PS[1] I reached down to the floor to pick up my trousers :jeans: RIGHT HANDED :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed: - affected hand - and unlike every morning previously PS[2] my middle two fingers joined in and opened up as well ! !!!:grin::grin:
!

And then they curled in to approximate a grasp :fist: !

Couldn’t do it again, and they took 5+ secs to open but months of [(apparently) fruitless] effort had it’s first significant demonstration of functional result

AND

Out at the farmer’s market when walking back to the car and focusing on the heel strike with the foot :footprints: moving in a straight line pivoted from the knee not a swing from the hip there seemed something different in my foot placement and after two or three consistently improved strides I felt muscles that shouldn’t be tensed relax and an old familiar pain in my big toe eased significantly.

A long way I think to go before it reverts to being autonomic and unthinking but another observable step change (pun intended).

For anybody reading and feeling that they are not making progress…

I urge you to recognise within my story here that progress has been invisible for so so long but must have been going on. Only Today have enough factors come together simultaneously to demonstrate progress is real.

To have both an upper and lower limb milestone in the same day is even more reward for effort

AND
I got a Follow from Nick Ward (Prof. @ Queens Square) and a reply from Avril Drummond (SA trustee, Stroke Prof. etc ) yesterday !

Wow !!

Congrats Simon, good to see progress still being made. You must be well chuffed. The hard work is paying off, bit by bit.

Fantastic Simon. I bet you were chuffed. Hopefully not too long before that all becomes the norm.:partying_face::partying_face:

Hi @SimonInEdinburgh Simon,
Great to hear and fingers crossed that as things wake up they stick and become the norm again.

Take care

Couldn’t repeat so well today but now I’ve done it successfully once the regular achievement won’t be flat behind

That is so good to hear Simon, and good for your morale. It also gives the rest of us hope for improvements when we thought we had reached a plateau.

 Congratulations Simon, you really had a significant day
Very similar to my experience in the past with my leg/foot, particularly with the big toe, that was a painful click I had when it relaxed back to normal :grinning:

And hopefully it should continue to improve, onwards and upwards

Thanks for your wisdom and grounding I too have little moments that whilst on their own are not much together are positive progress, like involuntary wiping of my outside edge of my walking boots in the door mat to remove mud, couldn’t repeat it consciously but did it once.
