Hi all.
Has anyone experienced Tinitus after their stroke. My wife lost her hearing in her left ear since her stroke and has had Tinitus for a while now. Thanks for any help. Rod

Indeed I have and still have it five years later. Worse in the mornings and at night, but tolerable during the day.

I have bilateral tinnitus since my stroke but with no hearing loss. It is worse when I am fatigued but is there constantly. There are some apps you can try to help - something like GNResound. Hope the acupuncture helps her.

The brain will eventually learn to ignore it, which is weird since it causes it.

My tinnitus improves as my blood pressure comes down so I use it as an indicator! Acupuncture in general is excellent. Elsewhere on the forum, I wrote:
My tinnitus reduced by 80% - lower blood pressure means less pressure to drive the tinnitus. In fact I use tinnitus as a BP monitor. When tinnitus gets worse I know my BP has gone up.
NB this ‘hack’ does not apply to all sufferers
Ps The next thing is headaches… me too! not one since stroke ; reason lower BP

Thanks for the info. My wife says if she’s stressed it gets worse. Maybe as you say her BP has risen. I’ll keep an eye on it

Not sure if I am reading this wrong, or if there’s a typo.
If I understand this right, you’re saying acupuncture doesn’t help you, but you have been using it for 20 years?
I guess in the end it probably doesn’t matter since we seem to benefit or not from the same treatments and until and unless we try it for ourselves we will never know.
it doesn’t help with tinnitus, that is… it helps plenty with balancing the body

A couple of months after my hubby’s stroke, he thought there was a car alarm constantly buzzing away. We discovered it was tinnitus. The hearing specialist explained that the brain likes to have input and my hubby’s hearing loss caused the brain to fill that gap with a buzzing noise. Once he had hearing aids and the gap was filled, the brain was happy. No more tinnitus.
A hearing test may solve your wife’s problem.

From what you have said, it seems there is a direct link between loss of hearing or damaged hearing and tinnitus. Though this might not be the case for everyone. I friend of mine used to suffer from tinnitus - I will share this with him to see if it might help, unless of course he has already had it addressed.

A GP may be repalced by AI but I am guessing an AI practitioner may not, but then again …

… not sure how long this will take, but a certain billionaire tech giant has suggested everything will be AI within 5/6 years. That sounds like an aggressive timescale, but the way things move in technology these days and by that individuals track record I cannot discount such a [scary] prophesy.
Interesting. I’ve recently started on meds to help me sleep - unfortunately it seemed to kick start tinnitus in my left ear.
I’m now on a second dose of meds for the sleep issues, but tinnitus remains. So they’re going to divert me to ear, nose and throat docs to see if that can be improved.
I pondered them just stopping the meds that is meant to help my sleep (the first one, that’s failing) but apparently referring me to ENT is better.
I hadn’t linked the tinnitus to the stroke, but I wonder if it is connected. Don’t want to assume too early. But it’s a “hmm..” to ponder!
That was what the audio specialist said and in my hubby’s case it definitely worked like magic. It’s definitely worth exploring. Good luck to your friend.
