Hi I had a carotid dissection which left one artery fully ocluded, with these kinds of dissections age can be important as the circle of willis helps bypass the injury which is what it is, mine was probably through coughing… it’s hard to define except in relation to them impact d it’s not straight forward, hospitals often have issues trying to track down what caused it hence my stay was over 5 weeks going through the listed i wasn’t, during that time I wasn’t allowed to stand it do anything as a precaution.
However within 24 hours of being home I was back to walking to the loo albeit with a stick, I’m not sure where they continence issues comes from I think mostly not being allowed to use the toilet to empty my bladder for 5 weeks impacted my bladder training mixed with fears of faking etc. They hospital was sure I’d need a few more months a doctor wanted to do some experimental vascular surgery then I got a doctor who understood the injury and all was good…
I still feel concerned it could happen again but the chances are as remote as they where before but it’s as understandable as it’s similar to fearing being hit by lighting off you get hit once… it’s worth considering it in terms of injury, Andrew Marr did his on a rowing machine and he is still a global figure… I expect he still fears it happening again.
I was in the gym this week instead of physio I have a PT and now lifting weights now 30kg on the leg press, shoulder lifts and dead lifts generally followed by 1km swims… at three tube in hospital I struggled with a 1kg weight and 4 weeks of being banned from evening standing had a detrimental impact but it’s understandable given the uncertainty this particular injury causes even stroke doctors
I think if you don’t have a clear this is why this is the treatment you need to avoid this it that then it’s really hard to actually juggle the concept of a stroke and even harder to convert your thoughts and fears to others… I tend to distill mine to a head injury and the hemiparisis…
Sorry I could help more but you are not alone as you with through it.

Apologies for the typos above I’m commuting by train to London and on my phone… I never thought I’d be doing this again so I’m embracing the typos.
Hugs to all
