Thank you

I believe it is true to say that the forum is viewed by the stroke association as an asset that does a lot to further the reputation of their brand (and thus fundraising)

I assert that 99% of that value is generated by the members on the forum who (are to use the stroke associations own term ) lived experience experts giving peer support

I wonder if any parts of the stroke association would like to offer thanks to the people who are putting time often wirh cognitive, fatiguing, dexterity and other challenges. I’d say the CEO & execs and trustees would be a group that comes to mind

I have seen no evidence of it so far.

For the record I would like to give my thanks to AT LEAST (cos I’ve got memory deficiencies - apologies those that I’ve missed) axnr911 Apple a.clare71 @Bobbi BakersBunny CholDog clibbers1 @DeAnn @EmeraldEyes Elle1 garethc970 HHilary Ismeval JuliaH JSCAPM Jfitz KGB Ktrean60 Kevin83 Loshy llareggub l_platt Mahoney @Mrs5K mum2two MisterO MarkF66 Mathew1798 Moonie @Nigelglos Outlander Pds @pando Pinch pamelai1 RedFraggle @Rups Rufus rodkay Steevo_fife Strings Sunnyday Susan_Jane sgjools stokiejoey Speckles Trace57 wattsy Veggiepatch 2lanegypsy

And I acknowledge a debt to
John_Jeff_Maynard etc al who were active in the early days and whose shoulder we stand upon

Thanx to all of you and others for contributions questions, answers, thoughts, reflections, inspirations, Likes given (fuel for community & belonging and recognition and all the other things in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs  ) and just all the STUFF of value IN GENERAL.

The value is COMMUNITY. Community is: history, folklore, customs, traditions, norms - in short culture developed by us in collaboration developed in response to needs, personalities & constraints.

I @'d the folk I think are the main stay - there’s a limit of 10 @s to a post created by the authors because they anticipated a different use-case to ours - But actually there’s only seven and there’s only 50 people in this list and the stroke association say there are 29,000 enrolments!!

Thank you Simon,

and may I just say that when I came across this forum, it was precisely you who welcomed me, engaged with me, and got me thinking ‘outside my box’. What a comfort that felt like; so invaluable to feel any sort of help when one is feeling vulnerable and defeated. I was in a terrible state, very unstable emotionally, but I love to think, and you spurred me on. That is how I connected with this site, and I would say I am more settled now, though I have my own ups and downs but also would like to think I have helped others. It’s an amazing process to see people help one another, altruistically. I think when people do this on a regular basis it encourages others. There is a lot of goodness that flows out of you, and long may it continue; bravo to you and all who set an example. The world needs helpers, the more the better. We all have the power to help, once we have attended to ourselves. May this process grow and accumulate… Good wishes to all, and thank you all,

ciao, Roland

There are so very many here to thank. I don’t know how you remembered so many. Loshy, Bobbi, Suzy Wong, Pinch, Pds. Mahoney, HHilary, Bakers Bunny, Matthew1968, Outlander…
You, sir, @SimonInEdinburgh have helped tremendously, most especially in continuing to see the value of all of those here, even when there is an occasional disagreement. You always remind me of the importance of considering a different point of view, questioning myself about my own, about the necessity to use discernment at the same time as showing respect for all.

Gosh you’ve both brought a tear to my eye (and that’s rare)

Thank you for the kind words.

Well obviously it was pretty faulty because I missed out @EMG72 and I must have missed others too

Apologies

I knew listing who to give thanks to was a double-edged sword that would guarantee an incomplete list - never was c’est la vie more apt.

When I joined the forum 2 & a bit years ago I had no idea what to expect. I had never been part of a forum before so it was very much stepping into the unknown. I didn’t post for a short while after joining but once I did I was very glad I had. As time moves on I need less help from the forum but hope I have repaid some of the help i received with my comments for others.

I would add my thanks to everyone who helped me then, now & in the future. I’m always learning.

Have a happy Sunday.

Simon, thank you for mentioning me in your post, I hope I’ve been able to help a few new people on the forum. I’ve been a member for 6 years and like all others who joined I came to the forum looking for help to the feelings I had following the stroke which hit me out of the blue. I have very fond memories of John Jeff and Colin who looked after me in those early days so much but I know Colin found the change in the forum hard to navigate and reluctantly left. I hope the forum continues to have members who support others who come looking for answers to the stroke they’ve had, because they are most likely the best people to ask.
Hope all is well with you Simon.

Hi Roland
Not a direct response to the above but just want to say I appreciate your dedication to holistic recovery. I have been on a holistic or mi d body spirit path for many years and find that awareness and knowledge helps me tremendously since stroke.
If you are up for some mutual support my email is spiritvoice@protonmail.com

Hi Val,

Thank you for that comment. I couldn’t agree more. My Qigong is so precious to me. I would say I embrace both worlds (the modern Western world and the spiritual Eastern world) but if I had to choose one it would be the latter !!
Health & prosperity to you!

I agree the need and desire to be holistic.

T’would be great to see you at one (some?) of the Thursday cafes - although Roland won’t be at them for the next couple of weeks because he’s galavanting in warmer clims

Speaking for myself I have difficulty separating out the thousands of years of wisdom that is undoubtedly handed down from previous generations from their misconceptions and the opportunistic miss-representations by the charlatan trader elements.

The processes of determining a truth from science has lost many truths from other sources - to our detriment :frowning:

How do you navigate the balance ?
