I agree the sleeping thing is definitely a must. I too can sleep many hours at night and still need naps. I have returned to part time work but the fatigue gets me every day.
I’m interested in how you sourced a private neuro psychologist. I have been referred on the NHS but the wait in my area seems to be never ending.
Hello Ann. I also had to see a Neurologist on the NHS - it was 18 months… I tried going back to work, once quite quickly and then a few months later. After a few days on both occasions it was clear that was not going to work. On my work health insurance I was able to ask for a ‘cognitive assessment’ of where my cognitive ability was at. They covered 4 sessions to do this - two for testing, one for writing the report and one for feedback. I am with AxA. They offered me two people to choose from. One specialised in children… not very helpful, which left only one. As it turned out she has been brilliant. After the initial assessment it was clear why returning to work was too challenging. The insurance covered for a set number of CBT session (x10). I needed more but my work was generous and provided a fund for a number of further sessions. I then supplemented. We covered acceptance therapy, CBT, personality and behavioural changes, adaptation strategies etc. If you don’t have insurance then I would highly recommend anybody to pay for an initial cognitive assessment. It’s going to cost a few hundred pounds but having a report of where you are challenged has been invaluable for me to help with benefit claims and work. It also gave me enormous peace of mind of what was still working well and what I can work on. For me it has been life changing and provided a road map forward. Finding somebody will be a challenge. BUT all the main insurance companies have a list of people on their books. You could approach directly if you didn’t have insurance. Here is the BUPA consultant finder webpage: https://www.finder.bupa.co.uk/ and the AXA finder page: Specialists covered by AXA | Top Doctors Other companies will have them also and most of these consultants have private clients. A bit of googling will get you directly connected I am sure. Hope this is helpful! Be persistent - if you don’t know how your brain has changed how do you know what to work on to adapt to your new life? Good luck
@rodkay thank you for sharing all those details. I shall have a look into it. I don’t have insurance so would all have to be self-funded. Sounds like you have got a lot out of it which is great to hear.
I will have a look through your links & do some googling.
