Friday is my strokeaversary - one year ago. What do you think I should do to celebrate?
Just be thankful that you can post a message on here. Some people are still struggling, so enjoy each and every day.
Do something that you really enjoy, whether watching a feel good film or having a beer and packet of pork scratchings, whatever makes it feel like you are doing something decadent that you might have enjoyed with abandon before stroke. That’s my idea of a celebration.
Offer or write with some tips to help someone in need on the forum?
It will make you feel right
This is a major milestone for you and you deserve to reward yourself. Some suggest that rewarding yourself when you achieve a goal or a milestone as part of stroke recovery is very beneficial and I believe this is true.
You can compare it to, for example, getting a degree, passing your driving test, getting a new job. It is not unusual for people to celebrate such events in ways that suits them and you should do the same.
Just a cautionary warning, try not to over do it as the “hangover” might be a bit more uncomfortable if you know what I mean.
So to celebrate do whatever makes you happy - give yourself a pat on the back. ![]()
Happy anniversary!

@Dexster Congratulations on your stokeaversary such a milestone that you have worked on Give yourself a pat on the back of your achievment and like others have said spend it doing something that you enjoye! I hope you have a great day, and keep us posted on your shennanigins!
Congrats on your Strokeaversary. I used my 1 year anniversary to reflect on how far I had come. But as others have said do something you enjoy & brings you happiness.
Happy Strokaversary! I had a small party for mine to thank the people that had been there for me over that year.
@Dexster, Icertainly think that it’s an anniversary to be marked and reflect on all the positive progress thstyouve made since the stroke
How you mark it is down to you; personally I’d go for a nice glass of wine and a hug with my wife!
No offence to your wife, but I’d rather hug my husband! I had an easy day reading magazines in the sunshine and watching the birds - and the little brown mouse! - on the bird feeders. And I managed to walk up the path from front gate to back gate! Lets see what improvements the next year brings. Thank you all for your kind words and good wishes.
@Dexster that sounds like a lovely way to spend the day on the anniversary of your stroke
. I’m 9 years post stroke and I rarely think about the date of my stroke (6th February 2017) and it comes and goes before we’ve even noticed most years.
Regards Sue
Thanks @Dexster
Your reply made me laugh! Thanks
my wife does give the best hugs as I’m sure your husband does
It sounds like we’re both very lucky to have amazing partners!
Good luck on your continuing recovery!
Hi,
Have you got any further with you wetroom yet? You have not yet responded to my question about armed forces service or whether either of you ever worked in insurance at ANY LEVEL?
Best regards,
Bob Isle.
