October the 1st was the launch date for the stroke associations latest media campaign which seeks to rebrand them from
‘Rebuilding lives after stroke’
to
‘Stroke Association - finding strength through support’
Instagram, x YT are now showing
And there was a piece on TV BBC yesterday morning
I think you need the BBC app player to view on a mobile - Not sure if the link takes it to the right place or to the beginning it starts at 21m53s
I imagine we’ll see the support angle reference the forum more. I’ve already seen one element from Juliet Bouverie that explicitly referenced us the community as a source of support.
Thanks for those videos Simon, that first one brought tears, very moving. As I don’t watch much tv anymore I would have missed the Morning Live talk altogether, so very much appreciated that you’ve posted them here And I liked the way Dr Xand how strokes differ with the visual demonstration using the brain model.
I saw that on the TV. It was interesting as they also did a piece on riptides and my stroke was triggered by a near drowning after I got caught in a riptide.
I agree the bit with the model worked well. Gonna have to raise that the use of fast was once again a travesty and his stats where all wrong - the fast ones i think from a mid 90s Canadian paper and the other claiming doubling next year was a complete balls-up!
The ad makes a better implicit point that strokes affects any age
In all I thought opportunity only weakly grasped - Better than nothing
Hi Simon, maybe we should have a straw poll of users on the site to see who had the ‘fast’’ symptoms and who had other symptoms. I had non of the ‘fast’ symptoms and was misdiagnosed for a few weeks. I was diagnosed by an ENT specialist who I had to see privately for sudden onset tinnitus. Hope all is well with you

James Bundy has a petition in the Scottish parliament because reliance on it by medical staff led to his father’s death
The poll that we’ve had going here for a long time is
And James’s request of for support is on
A far superior test is S.T.R.O.K.E.
Which was proposed by Jill Bolte Taylor a stroke thrivers who was a professor of neurology at the time of her stroke.
The steadfastness with which some hold on to fast is an anchor that is preventing improvement in stroke avoidance. Arguably the biggest impact is to the young who present with cognitive and visual but not physical symptoms and are told “go and sleep it off” - That may be a valid emotional response in front line medical staff but it is never the right course of action until the possibility of neurological causes has been reduced to a very small number - We will never be able to go to correctly diagnose 100%, but currently it appears we’re not even trying in many cases
Regarding the BBC clip. I was disappointed that they only mentioned stroke being caused by a bleed at one point in the video. I didn’t have a clot, so I would prefer information relevant to me as well.
