Respite Care

Has anyone applied to the Stroke Association for respite care?

Hello - funding for respite and carer breaks can be sought from health and local authority commissioners depending on the circumstances. If you are comfortable sharing details, I can give advice. I’m a stroke survivor and still practising social worker. David Hearnden.

Hello David

I had given a talk to fundraise for the stroke association and was asked if I had ever sought respite care from the stroke association. My situation is only mild I believe as I have occasional epileptic seizures and gait ataxia and use a walker. I also have bipolar affective disorder and have had previous psychoses. My husband has patiently followed ambulances to hospital and brought me home at four in the morning I was thinking he could do with a break and I could go some where for a few days so he could pursue other interests.

A short break while he reminded me of the list of medication I take daily including one for diabetes insipidus a rare pituitary problem. If I don’t take it I go to the loo all night and he loses sleep. I live in Dereham Norfolk.

@jenny-wren No, maybe someone on the Forum has. Good luck :folded_hands:

I have now had some information from the helpline. I don’t know if I contacted them or David did but many thanks!
