JohnnyBoy81 So ashamed to hear about your experience with social workers….i was a criminal justice social worker here in Scotland so didn’t do care assessments but do understand the hurt you must feel…RubyRoo thankyou for your input I feel so much better just reading it….i was such an eejit…it didn’t help that I had severe neck strain from days of knitting a complex FairIsle pattern with my poor posture…live and learn, live and learn xx
By the way, Mary and Watson are difficult dogs to walk, Mary is highly nervous and reactive to many things while Watson is just a hooligan!!
@Susie1 , I’m upset by their heavy handed way they dealt with mum’s case. And the fact that they repeatedly snubbed me, refused to help and were repeatedly rude to me. Also they let mum die in the care home. I did all I could to have her cared for at home but, I was repeatedly blocked at every turn. That’s why I’m angry. I feel they abused their authority and keeping mum in the care home against her wishes. ![]()
@Susie1 Oh bless you, they sound like a challenge even without stroke recovery! No wonder your balance got tested. Take care, have a very relaxing week and I hope your neck gets better soon (another challenge for your brain) x
@Susie1 , don’t get me wrong. I know of a couple of social workers (they’re retired now and living abroad) and they were the sort of people who moved heaven and earth to help. They are the sort of people I like. The ones mum had just wanted an easy life. Sadly, there are lots of them out there. The problem is: how many? ![]()
Totally agree….esp nowadays it seems to be done by committee and cost benefit analysis…pah!! Ach weel as they say here in Scotland xx (can’t say anything stronger on the thread LOL) xx
@Susie1 , it’s a shame it’s profit over people. Just like America. Also “eejits” they are (mum always used that word, being from Ireland
). Like you, I would say something stronger but, I’ll get booted off the forum. Hope the weather is nice in Scotland. ![]()
I am half Irish my mother being from Roscommon. Cheers x
@Susie1 , a couple of my mum’s relatives live in Roscommon
. There in their late 80s and disabled.
I’m having problems sleeping. I have sleeping pills but do not want to get hooked on them so after a couple of night’s decent sleep after taking them on the third evening decided that I would rely on nature to handle sleep. I had a doze in the afternoon prior and actually had a dream, so that proved I was capable of a proper sleep.
I got rid of the problems that were bugging me when trying to sleep by writing them and filing them on the computer . This convinced my brain that they were being handled and took the pressure off.
When bedtime came I made sure I was comfortable, fed and warm and after a while must have dropped off, but didnt know it because I had no dreams. after a while I got fed up with laying there and not sleeping so I decided to get out of bed and take another tablet and they all agreed it was a good idea.
I got out of bed and started preparations to take a tablet when the penny dropped that "they all’ did not exist so I was actually dreaming and if I was dreaming it meant that I was actually sleeping so instead of taking another pill I had a couple of asparin and went back to bed!
There’s logic for you!

A dream within a dream.
@Rups , almost sounds like the lyrics to a song.
Edgar Allan Poe’s poem …
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
@Rups , nice poem. You could almost put these to a song. “Windmills of your mind” spring to mind. Nice song.
Brilliant - I love this.
