Hello Jane,
Nice to hear from you again - it’s been a while since you last visited.
I hope all is well with you and your husband Graeme. It would be lovely if you get a chance to tell us how Graeme’s stroke recovery is coming along. As I recall, he was doing very well having been discharged from a short stay in hospital. Perhaps he managed to get out to the allotment?
How have you been getting on? I remember you had many questions and worries. Having joined this forum, I hope you are feeling a lot less worried and all your questions have been answered
Now, you came back here because you and your husband both had voicemail asking you to call the Stroke Association in Liverpool. You are wondering if this is legitimate or if it might be a scam as you have had some scam calls recently and are therefore being cautious. I am pleased that you are aware of the scam calls and you are right to be cautious as you never know when you might be targeted.
Personally, I feel scammers would be unlikely to say they are from the Stroke Association. I think scammers usually are driven by finance and so look to steal money in some way or other e.g. by getting you to divulge some personal information and banking details etc. But as you are aware, I hope they will not be able to trick you into handing over such details.
It has been a long time (over six years) since we were contacted by the Stroke Association and for us this was a [pleasant] surprise because at the time we were in a terrible state, clueless and running around like headliss chickens. I can’t remember who had made the referral for us, but I think it may have been linked to the hospital. I think that the hospital had a relationship with our local Stroke Association representative, or the Stroke Association may have pro-actively sought to offer help to stroke survivors. I can’t say how they got our contact details, but I am satisfied that it was someone from the stroke support team, most likely the hospital and I am satisfied there was no breach of data protection or such like.
For us, the Stroke Association was an absolute God send and they came to our home, sat down with us, gave us lots of very useful information and offered ongoing support for six months. They were and are to this day very supportive and we were and are grateful to them and whoever put them in touch with us.
In closing, I feel it is likely the contact is genuine and you may wish to follow up [with caution] as if they do for you what they did for us, you (and Graeme) will be very much better off.
But, please do take care as I am aware scammers are ever getting more and more devious.
Once again, it has been great to hear from you and hope to hear more from you when you have the time.
Peace and Love.
