So yesterday I had a asthma appointment with the nurse. All ok.
She then said how am I doing since the stroke. She asked about my medication and if I had any concerns at been on them. I said no. I said I had managed to get back to some normality at work on a phased return with less hours going forward. She then asked how work were treating me. All good thanks. She discussed how the stroke causes the fatigue and anxiety and in time it will get better but to let it take its time and give in when you need too especially with the fatigue. Anxiety will get better with time.
I wasn’t expecting the discussion about the stroke and my initial appointment was for 10 mins. I was in 30 mins.
She then said. I know exactly how you are feeling. I had my stroke 12 years ago. Believe me I thought my life was over. And said anytime you need a talk ring and ask for an appointment with me.
I came out of the drs got into the car and the emotions just took over. What a lovely person and lovely Drs mine are. Why aren’t all surgeries the same.
Hi @Gnasher , glad this went well for you I’m sure it gives us all hope. I do wish all surgeries were indeed the same. Mine is at the other of decent unfortunately side but it’s not their fault.
I suppose that we should be thankful that most practice nurses haven’t experienced a stroke first hand, but great that yours has been there and was able to be so helpful. You’ve found a useful ally there.
That sounds great. It is always good when they take just a little bit of extra time to speak to us properly. My GP is the same.
That’s why she is always running late…but I don’t mind if that means I get the time I really need for my appointment. I suspect it is the system not the staff a lot of the time that makes everything rushed.
And doesn’t it make things so much easier in your head when they are so thoughtful and helpful like that? But I know, as @Mrs5K says, you can sit in a waiting room and see how the GPs and staff are run ragged and sometimes are very understaffed.
@Gnasher how wonderful to meet a nurse with such positivity and reassurance. It makes SO much difference when someone is understanding and kind. Thanks for sharing a heartwarming experience
