I am a 79 year old male and have had a mini stroke on the 9th September, basically a acute infarct in the right occipital lobe, whatever that is, without boring everyone with the details, it seems I was very lucky in that all my other functions were largely unaffected apart from distorted vision which has largely corrected itself already, and apart from some occasional tingling in my lower left arm below the elbow and my left hand , I am ok at present.
My dilemma is that we have a weeks holiday booked to Corfu on the 27th of September, but I don’t know if I should go, the stroke clinic has not advised me I shouldn’t go, only banned me from driving for a month, if we cancel the trip ourselves we will lose the full cost of the holiday, nearly £1800, which we can ill afford to lose, I am Jin a quandary as to what to do☹️

@Injebreck99 Hi & welcome to the forum. Sorry you’ve had cause to join us.

In relation to your holiday you may need to check with your airline as some of them have timescale restrictions on flying after a stroke. You may need to provide a fit to fly certificate/letter.

You may also want to look at the Stroke Association leaflet on holidays after stroke. Link below.

Do you have insurance? If so they should cover the cost of the holiday if you have to cancel.

If it was me and i had been advised not to travel by my consultant then I would cancel. As far as I am aware if you’ve been told not to fly / travel your insurance may not be valid if you do travel. It should though cover you having to cancel assuming you took cancellation cover. If they have said it’ll be ok to go then maybe you should go. You might need to update your indurance company re your mini stroke.

Best wishes

Ann
