@Mrs5K Our landlord has said for the past five years now that we are long overdue to get a new bathroom, so this might be a good time to make a push for that. And yes, I will request an occupational therapist to visit. We do have a grabrail next to the bathtub, but he still need to get into the bathtub and it can easily get slippery. So that’s not much safety. And it’s also very narrow. We also have a grabrail next to the toilet, and one on each side of the front door outside (which is less useful in the bathroom). But I will request an OT assessment. Who can I turn to in order to get that done?
Thank you for the positive thoughts. Always appreciated.
And I’ll see what I can find out. I’m so aware of that strokes can have a lot of different effects on people, and right now I’m only grateful that my partner is still alive. Doing my best to keep it that way. But I think a lot of people who doesn’t have to deal with it can be less understanding of the side-effects, so I can’t blame you for being irritated when people tell you to “lower your voice”.
As I mentioned to Mrs5K, we have been due to get a new bathroom for the past five years, so this would be an excellent opportunity to request something like that. Sounds very practical and much easier to use than a shower above a bathtub. And honestly, I can’t wait to get rid of that old horrible bathtub. I will see if I can get an OT assessment. Thanks for the description of the chair and how it works
It’s my pleasure Christa: if there are any questions you have, please feel free to ask. I have grab rails at each side of my shower chair, so I can stand up to shower if I so wish.
Yes, I will give the ESD team a call and see if they can help with that. I know they have an Occupational Therapist in the team, so I’ll see if I can get a visit in place.
While I appreciate that, we had a visit yesterday from the ESD team, and I described for him what you had told me, the kind of setup you had. And his eyes lit up, so he understood what I meant. But I appreciate the thought.
Christa. Hello! I am trying to attach COUPLE(3) photos of my wetroom to help you with yours, but I am hopeless with computers, and do not know how to do it without an email address to use! Please let me know if you receive them.My wife took them and emailed them to me, so they are in my Inbox.I got no help from S.A. helpline as it is Sunday and they are closed !
You will need to save those photos that your wife sent you, then create a new message for me here, and in the row of icons in the message field, there’s one icon that looks like a photo. If you click that icon, you can upload photos from your computer
If it doesn’t work, let me know and I will send you my email address in a message here.
Hello Christa,
I’ll try…!!! But I am so incompetent, I hope I do not send you something I do not intend to! If I do, please accept my sincere apologies. I have tried but failed to follow your advices and think it would be better to email the photos to you, which I know how to do simply by "forwarding " my wife’s email OK? Email address awaited.

Hi Christa,
I’ve just been re-reading the posting -trail from 15 June and, oh dear, you are having a tough time of things at present. But keep up hope and things do tend to slowly improve when problems arise. I know my brain was damaged during my stroke 5 years ago, but one does not like to acknowledge that . I was in hospital lying on my back on a hospital bed: hugely frustrating and depressing. So, upon discharge to home and my new wetroom, I elected to enjoy a shower EVERY morning. I hope your partner will enjoy the experience similarly, Best of luck ! And keep your chin up. By the way, the shower chair is available on the internet for about £54.00 I f you need manufacturer model,e tc, please let me know.

Thank you for the photos, and yes, he missed taking showers of course. But he’s missing his baths more, although the bathtub will have to go now. I think they would have removed that anyway when they planned to upgrade our bathroom. It’s much easier to keep a walk-in shower clean than the bathtub, especially an old one.
I’m about to write an update about how he’s doing now since he’s been home for a week.
Hi Christa,
Whilst I ENJOYED A LONG SOAK in a nice bath, there is nothing better than sitting comfortably on a nice shower chair, and your partner will soon learn to enjoy it !
By the way, I may have mislead you earl;ier: it is now over 5 years since I bought my chair and having checked today, I see prices have increased dramatically to around the £200 mark!
Regards,
Bob Isle.
Ilook forward to receiving your update!
And don’t forget that with a shower, there is nothing to stop you getting a separate shower stool, so you can join in the shower ! I have an inexpensive one, made of aluminium and with adjustable heights.
Best,
Bob
