Hi I’m moving house into a bungalow and my OT is seeing what I need tomorrow my bungalow has countertops that go to my height in my Wheelchair and I have a wet room but I need to think of other stuff that I need. I have left side paralyzation from the Stroke so I just need to know if you can think of anything else that I might need, I also have a hoist in my room in case I’m ill. I also have Seizures and I’m Deaf and I also have an Careline in case I’m ill. I also have Seizures and I’m Deaf and I also have an Assistance Dog who helped me with Mobility.

Hello @Beckett - this is to welcome you to the community.
My thoughts are the OT is probably best placed to help you with the home adaptations/aids. I don’t know you or your condition well enough to suggest specific things, but you already mentioned worktops at the right height, wet room and other things so hopefully, with the help of the OT you will get the things you need.
I am sure others on this forum will be able to offer specific advice based on what they may have done especially of they can relate to your condition.

Thank you for welcoming me I had a stroke in 2022 so when I was 22 basically and it gave me left side paralyzation so I’m in wheelchair I don’t get much help from where I am so I just needed ideas of what to tell my OT I might need as at moment I’m in my hospital bed (called profiling bed floor bed) 24/7 in the house I’m currently in

There are lots of gadgets to help in the kitchen. I would recommend a strong pair of scissors to get into packaging. You may find it easier to work at a table if your chair will fit underneath. I assume access in and out is OK. There a lots of little things like pump action dispensers for shampoo, soap and toothpaste.

I would suggest plenty of kitchen gadgets. You can get something that fits to your worktop to help you so things one handed. What about making sure the cooker / microwave is at an accessible height. Do you need gadgets to help you get dressed? Long handled sponges to wash your bottom half and your back?
Something to help you get your cuppa from one room to another? A tilting kettle?
Are all the doorways wise enough dor your chair to fit through. Ramps at all external doors. A ring doorbell so you can see who is at the door.
That’s all I can think of for now.

I have found that having a roll of non-slip grip mat you can cut to size, or already cut mats are essential for the kitchen worktops, especially for around the kettle when making hot drinks, and underneath chopping boards and more than handy, an adapted chopping board with raised L-shape corners that help when buttering bread and toast etc gets used on a daily basis and they are quite inexpensive.
