Menopause &stroke

Have any of the fellow female stroke survivors been going through the menopause while recovering from stroke.I’ve found that both have really affected my mental hygiene making me very depressed and lonely unable to see even joyous things as joyfull.

My partner had an undiagnosed stroke, and when she went through menopause she dropped into a very deep and dark depression, crying uncontrollably a lot. She is now on SRRI medication and much more settled and has stopped the crying. However, she was going through a very stressful time in her life with her family, and so that may also have contributed to it. A perfect storm, I believe it is called.

Fortunately I had just come out the other side when I had my stroke as I was taken straight off HRT. Without HRT i think I would have been a gibbering wreck through menopause never mind adding a stroke into the mix.

Yes@mrs5k HRT patches saved me as I was already a gibbering wreck afraid that I’d fall out of bed out of the window etc.and having confabulations about my ex-husband and former boss!

Hello!
I went to the Dr’s recently for a blood test to check for the menopause as iv only has a couple of periods since my stroke 2 years ago. Previously before stoke I was on the continuous pill which stopped my periods since I was 16, so was on it until my stoke at 37. It was quickly stopped after my stroke and as Iv mentioned Iv only had a couple of periods in those 2 years. The blood test confirmed menopause, or ‘ovarian insufficiency’ since I’m under 40. In fact the blood test said I was ‘post menopausal’ in the range, so not sure that’s a good sign.
I’m constantly having bouts of sadness, rage, tearfulness, depression, feel bloated, have aches and pains, headaches, hot flushes and at times want to jump off a cliff. I’m not sure whether this is stroke related, whether the stroke caused me to go into early menopause or whether it’s a mixture of both hormones and stroke!
Iv found the book written by Davina McCall helped me deal with why I might be feeling like this, but so far I’ve not found many people who are recovering from stroke and going through menopause at the same time.
My Dr has written to my heart consultant to check if I can have Evoral Seque patches which I think may help :upside_down_face:
It’s no wonder our past people didn’t live very long when things like this happen to our bodies that we have to put up with

Hello @caty i’m am like you recocvering from a haemorragic stroke that i had in May 2021. I haven’t had any periods post-stroke and blood tests have confirmed i’m menopausal. I don’t know which of my symptoms are menopausal and which are stroke-related. I like you have been very depressed andwonder why i survived such a monumental event that only 15% of people who have an aneurysm survive. I should be delighted that i’m aive, but this doesn’t feel like a life, it’s an existance with very few joys and moments of happiness. I’m a people person and i’m always alone! Please know that you are not alone. I find stoic philosophy really elpful. Do you have family to support you?
