After my fall a few weeks ago I deployed my electric wheelchair
Made it up a steepest slope and attended the service!

I know how falls can knock your confidence sometimes.
I have seen what it can do to others and more recently a fall I had at my front door put a psychological limit on my activity.
I am working at getting back my confidence and am making some progress. It definitely was a step in the wrong direction that I need to correct.
I hope you find that success follows success. We can get control of things again I am sure.

Yes Bobbi it does suck one’s confidence but having done it too many times it becomes more of an embarrassment and inconvenience to be honest

I made it to church a year ago and had my confidence rocked when I had three falls after holding my husbands hand for some years which was like not having had a stroke. An occupational therapist suggested a rolator. Now a wheelchair you operate by yourself has been suggested. The ground is very rough where I live and on a hill. i got a scooter which can’t go on rough ground or slopes. I don’t know what is best. Added to that i can’t operate this forum so can’t start a new topic and have gate crashed this one as being slightly related. Apologies!

Not a problem jennywren, it is not intuitive in starting a new topic so let’s use this in anyway.
My wheelchair has some rough terrain capabilities so use as needed the scooter is very capable having four wheel suspension and spring seat plus 5 inch clearance. I go anywhere in it , the chair mainly town or down to my garden centre.

My scooter can do some slopes but not really steep ones. I bought one with a comfier seat so when I go over uneven terrain it isn’t too uncomfortable but I also have no padding on my bum so need something that isn’t too hard. I see people whizzing around fairly well on rollators. I usually look on with envy as I can only move like a snail at best

Hello. I find the rough ground makes it hard to use the rollator. Still I am exercising my muscles. I can zoom around on smooth ground of which there is little where I live!

You mean one of these? Where you push the wheels round by hand?
I had a go on a similar one in a supermarket (Asda) where they were made available for disabled shoppers.
I was very disappointed, as right side impaired, I discovered all I could do was, with difficulty, go around in circles.
I couldn’t get further than about 100 yards with a rollator and then needed a long rest.
I eventually bought a small electric mobility scooter, which also has its limitations. However it does let me get out and about with more independence.
No I use this chair from LITH tech fully motorised and has rough ground and steep slopes capable operating profile

Thanks Bobbi it is the only one I felt was big enough and comfortable enough for my large body and so far has been a good choice, not an inexpensive outlay but proving it’s worth every time, was out in Skipton town centre in it today and it got me in and out of all shops , no one hit never got stuck and handled cobbles and a few not so dropped curbs.
I got a pair of shorts a water bottle and a gilet for autumn plus some aftershave.
Plus we had fish and chips for lunch so not a bad outcome

It’s great to have that bit of independence so you can get out and just do ordinary things, isn’t it?.
Being in an ordinary world doing ordinary things seems almost a privilege.
It shouldn’t be so.
We must not allow it to be so.
We must grab every opportunity that comes along.
What you are doing will inspire hope and be an aim for others still finding their way.

Thanks Bobbi it does feel like a privilege to have done what I did today as an able bodied man, I’m saddened at having to contrast the before battle and the post stroke experience,
