Happy new year @Tim1W hope 2025 is the year where you can start to progress even more through your recovery.
Hi @Tim1W
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I can see you’ve had a couple of responses to your question about Online Activities, thank you to @Mrs5K and @EmeraldEyes
As has been mentioned the sessions are run on Zoom, they are a friendly place for you to get peer support. If you don’t feel confident talking, you are more than welcome to just come along and listen, please be assured we never make anyone talk on our sessions if they don’t want to.
We’d love to have you along if you fancied giving a try. As @Mrs5K has said, you could try and see if you like it.
Anna
That one sounds like it could be @Bobbi 's zoom group, although he’s using Jitsi now rather than zoom. And now that I’ve tagged in your post he may be along later to discuss it more with you.
There used to be another weekly zoom session run by Simon but he’s no longer on this forum but does still run the zoom sessions, @BakersBunny might help you with that.
Have you ever had an MRI or CT scan in the course of the investigation into your condition as these can show up old strokes?
Because it does sound like you definitely had a stroke and just about everyone on here can relate to your symptoms including myself.
This is certainly not a mental health illness you were born with is it? Therefore, something neurological did happen in your brain in 2006/7, like a stroke or TIA’s!
*deeply traumatic experience *
being switched off,
supply lines being cut up the left side.
brain and mental function, managing, speaking disappeared
nervous system may have been damaged or tired out from stress
Something inside said that’s enough, switched me off
feeling of fatigue on my left side like something being slowed down
Thanks, it’s helped just to get the experience out in words. I haven’t been able to do that before
Is anger common with post stroke? I keep getting anger slowing me down
but I am getting strange ups and downs. Constant anxiety feeling.
On a few occasions I managed to verbalise the amount pain and discomfort I was experiencing
I was left on my own in extremely pain and suffering.
The anger is really powerful no sign of it letting up yet
My social speak level is only just returning. The anger I’m currently going through is making it nearly impossible to speak at time.
So, you have had 16 years of recovery. Unfortunately the is no cure for it. Yes there are certain things the NHS can do when you’ve had a stroke either surgically for bleeds and blockages, give you all the right medications to reduce the risk of another stroke. And perhaps cognitive therapy to help cope with any psychological effects. Other than that its a waiting game to see how much your brain can recover or regenerate.
What Part of the Brain Controls Emotions? Fear, Happiness, Anger, Love
The limbic system controls emotions such as anger, stress, if you haven’t already, it might be worth having a read up on it. If a stroke impacted this part of your brain or near it in some way, it can affect your moods such as anger and fear.
I’m 4yrs post stroke, like you my voice was switched off and it was like someone had cut my puppet strings controlling my right side, cognitively impaired, etc.
Unlike you, my family were around me at the time, recognised it for what it was and called the ambulance; and I was in hospital just 5 days.
Now I’m talking again but I still have mild aphasia, cognition is back onboard though still not quite 100%, still have some weakness down right side and I “manage” my fatigue. But I am walking, talking, driving, go to the gym and various fitness classes, laugh, cry, get annoyed. I’m “normal”…just not 100%
How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking? I understand where your sister is coming from, but I understand your need to know better. In your shoes, I would certainly want to know, knowledge and understanding of your condition is good for your psychological health well being. If you’re still feeling the effects of it today, you want to know what needs to be done to reduce the risk of it happening again. Are you on any of the standard medications stroke survivors take i.e. blood pressure tablets, blood thinners, statins?

Stroke Improvement Group
@EmeraldEyes, Sounds like you’re doing really well. I’m always trying to see the glass half full, that things are mending. Excercise is definitely the way forward.
I lived with a stroke for 16 years. My recovery has been 2 years so far.
Apparently the brain does make new connections
A group could be helpful going forward
Tim
I’m 49 physically I feel amazing. It’s just the other bits
Tim
Hello, just feeling the need to write. I had support meeting on Thursday I started to hear myself emerging out of the ashes.
A stress related functional stroke, higher functioning stroke. Not a heart or blood related stroke. It’s already helping to leave it behind. My Brain pulled the stop chord. Strokes don’t always have to be heart or blood related.
I tried to access the Zoom quiz group but got lost and annoyed with the Zoom signing up process.
Here’s to a lighter and possibly more productive or progressive 2025
Tim
I’m so pleased you are starting to rise from those ashes Tim
It’s surprising how much a wrong diagnosis can hinder recovery/hold you back, but it does. But once set on the right path, with the correct tools to forge ahead, you will continue to make further improvements.
I don’t actually do the zoom quiz group myself, but others on here might be able to guide you, @Anna_Moderator should certainly be able to help you with getting on to it
Not “possibly” but will be Think positive, it will be slow but you also have youth on your side. And thank you for keeping me updated
Onwards and upwards
Lorraine
Great to hear your support meeting has started to help you. There are many stroke causes & yes they’re not all simply heart or blood issues.
As @EmeraldEyes says @Anna_Moderator or @Nicola_Moderator should be able to help you with the zoom group.
Here’s to 2025 being a great year for you.
Ann
Hi @Tim1W

Hello @Tim1W
I am a tad late joing this post, but I would like to add my welcome message to you. I note you have had plenty of responses to your post and trust you have found some help and much comfort from them.
First, I must full catch up on this and then if I have anything I can add, I will do so. In the meantime I wish you all the best.
