Ive had it with Barnsley Hospital

Hi Folks
Had a quiet day after the tests done by specsavers,
Just checked my phone and there is a text from GP.
States BARNSLEY HOSPITAL have written to the Surgery because i didnt turn up for my heart monitor fitting.
Just one prob here, I did turn up and it was a complete and utter disaster. I even posted on here about it.
I had the monitor fitted and returned it the next day as per instructions.
Now they are saying i didnt turn up and got to be re-reffered to Cardio.
Im taking legal advice now and refuse to deal with BARNSLEY HOSPITAL ever again.
The incompetence is mind blowing.

How irritating. I wish you all the best with sorting that out. Sadly, you can’t fix stupid. Or incompetent.

Hi @Gravel don’t know the process but I had two separate ones done one for 24 hours and one for 72. The 72 hour trace was first from Friday at 09:00 until the Monday at the same time . Like everyone was given a ziploc bag and a label inside to identify this as mines. Nobody collects them placed in a plastic tub at reception- this saves the local hospital time.

Two weeks later no results and the GP called saying sorry can you repeat this as one or too bags weren’t closed correctly and all needed redoing. Duly obliged but insisted on a proper handover which was reluctantly agreed. Pointed out a simpler resolution given the days the 72 tests are done are Fri-Mon and Tues- Fri have someone be there for handover/ collection, seems this is too expensive and it is better to repeat tests is someone doesn’t close the bag over

For that very reason i placed mine in a large envelope mate. Put name and details plus date etc on envelope. They have still lost it.
Been to GP this morning and handed in a load of documents regarding a complete mess up with ENT.
Im usually a laid back sort of chap , but ive had it with these idiots in admin.

When I had mine done, I had to sign for it to take responsibility for it if it was lost, and I got a receipt when I returned it. Still took a couple of months to get any results.

As I have stated earlier, it is nearly always the administration side of NHS that is the disaster, not the medical side !Like my GP referring me to a MEMORY CLINIC but when we got there(early, as usual !) IT WAS THE CLINIC THAT FORGOT THE APPOINTMENT!!! You sometimes have to have a sense of humour!

But you can certainly …

@Gravel - my advice is lodge a written complaint directly with the hospital. I may have missed it, but I didn’t see anything in your posts that suggested you had complained to the hospital.

This might sound stupid, but if you don’t know there’s a problem, they may not know there’s a problem, or they may not see it as a problem because they are looking at it from a different perspective.

If this is your local hospital, you may not have a choice in case of an emergency and so I would suggest you would be better off trying to help them to help you. You might be pleasantly surprised

I checked their website and you can contact them using the Feedback and Complaints service

Feedback, compliments and complaints | Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Contact us | Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

If you want to FastTrack it, go directly to the top.

Again you might be pleasantly surprised.

This may or may not help you, but I had a look in the Care Quality Commission (CQC) website to see how Barnsley Hospital is rated by them.

Here’s how it’s rated.

Now this may not mean much as my personal view on quality commissions and any measurement tools is they can be skewed or [brutally] fiddled.

Also this dates back to 2018 and as at 2023/24 CQC don’t have a problem with this hospital, at least not as per your bad experiences. But these things are relative and subjective and so I expect you will do what you think is right for you.

Thanks
I have a ongoing problem with same Hospital before this latest mess up.
Basically they said they had seen a private MRI i had done and said it was clear. The Mri and report stated i had a serious problem. Been dealing with this for over a year now.
ENT lied when they said they had seen the MRI scan. I have written proof from date of letter from ENT and then the date MRI scan was handed to my GP.
I handed a letter to ENT with the heart monitor. ENT got the letter and a lady phoned saying contact your GP.
Strange how the letter got through to ENT but the heart monitor and letter were lost,

I think you’ve got things covered and I wish you success as what you are having to deal with is totally unnecessary.

One final thing that occurs is whether you would want to consider involving your local MP. Perhaps with their help, they can push some buttons to sort out the mess this NHS trust run hospital has created.

Wishing you success.

Thank you it will get sorted at some stage.

The thing is Gravel, you didn’t tell them at reception at The Glass Works, that you are colour blind. Isn’t that why you were late, because you stood between two departments rather than state your invisible disability. And as it turned out neither one of them was right one, so you missed your call. They are not mind readers, if you’d stated you were colour blind they would have either given alternate directions or maybe even have someone accompany you. But you have to state these things, after all it’s for the good of your health not theirs. You can’t afford to let your pride ordignity get in the way of your health. I had to give up all that when I had my babies, otherwise I would have been dead 25yrs ago.

So in that particular instance, mistakes have been made on both sides.

Being color blind really had nothing to do with the appointment time.I stated in original post that when i finally got to have the monitor fitted Nurse admitted the fault was with reception not logging me in.
I told Nurse i had been sat between the orange section and yellow section. She told me it was ok as its on my records i have severe hearing loss and they would have found me if reception had booked me in.They werent looking for me simply because i had not been booked in and logged as absent.
I handed a letter into GP surgery this morning. GP rang me about 15 mins ago. She had contacted glassworks and they admitted it was receptions fault.
The colorblind thing is just embarrasing having to have to ask someone what color a section is.

Yep i signed for mine, Then reception gave me a receipt when i took it back.
So i had proof i was there and had returned the monitor.
ENT got the letter i had written but Cardio was booked as not attending.
