I don’t know who I am anymore

Hi Janis, I had a severe stroke 4yrs ago which has left me with arm issues and very dropped foot for which I have been given a turbo med external support. It fastens onto the outside of my shoe and has made a huge difference to my walking ability. On line it costs £1,600 but the Neuro physio prescribed it on the NHS for which I am very grateful. I don’t have physio but I privately have a “Rolfing” treatment. It is described as massaging the tendons and ligaments and a session every 6to 8 weeks keeps my body very comfortable. Despite looking drunk with my leg and foot which is not always connected to my brain and sometimes poor balance I have walked up to 7 miles on footpaths with a stick. Climbing over styles still defeats me but I have got myself under fences at times. I’m barely 5ft 2 and 76 but determined to do what I used to do.

Hello…

Yes you’re right i,m sure….i was told to just stop one and start the other and possibly the way I felt was due to withdrawal from mirtazapine rather than taking sertraline x

Hello Mabel…wow seven miles! That’s impressive. Thanks for all that info….I currently have a saebo and also an ossur AFO and they both help me a bit with walking. I still have to concentrate on each step and could not imagine walking even one mile. Your leg brace sounds interesting…..thanks xx

Hello Trace - im yet to introduce myself into this forum - so this is my first post . I just wanted to say to you how brave i think you all are in talking about these issues . I hope that Janis finds solace and support from your words and can i add that from a previous mental health crisis that I experienced i have retained the ability to meditate and find peace in meditation. It’s also worth saying that there is help available for anyone experiencing mental health issues via various help lines and it often helps to just call these people and talk through the reasons for feeling as you do. Thank you for your post it very much inspired me to.
