I didn't have any understanding of what was happening to me

Hi Colin,

Keep up the daily walk! I have done my first solo walk proper today. Home to our Civic centre - 3000 steps the short way. so 3km done. No where near my pre SAH days - 16000 was the norm on a walking day. I managed 7000 in the city centre  acouple of weeks ago. Most days I have been able to do between 5000 and 6000 steps, the same as when I was working. I agree my legs, feet and ankles ache.

My cognitive ability is pretty OK but I struggle with selecting the right word for something when talking to some one. I can see the word I want to say in myhead but can't seem to get it to move from there to my mouth :)

Went to my allotment today. Met the old fellas....who have been fab in keeping the weeds down when I was seriously ill. They are also good at keeping me positive. My allotment was and will continue to be my bit of heaven and I might not have the energy to dig, but there are always friend to help! The guy on the next plot is 78....he has weeded and shown my husband (who hates gardening) how to  keep the weeds down with little energy.

Keep up with the walking Colin,

Its good to compare 'notes' with you

Manual - with gears

Will be getting automatic, the new hybrid/electric are manual anyway. Only 2 pedals - accelerator and brake. My dad drove one after his stroke. Much easier to drive.

Don't fret about the brain.....it will do what it does. As I said in my other posting, with me its words I picture and they can't make their way to my mouth.

Love this group so supportive

Dear Fiona

an allotment, how fabulous. They are so popular nowadays. I have an allotment sized section in my garden. The weeds keep winning, but I fight back. I don't dig, I use the alternative method of weeding then mulching. Can't see a big difference from when I dug each year. I have had so many runner bins it's not true. Now the sweet corn is ripening nicely. Spuds have been decent. It is very very dry in this little corner of Essex, so spuds usually poor, but this year it's good. My other half doesn't join in with gardening. She does pick the raspberries and strawberries and the runner bins.

initially I had aphasia and speech was so slow. Now I can form words but my brain can't always provide the right words. Don't lose your cool when the words won't come. Just wait and eventually they return. Names are a different matter. I have now learnt to apologise then say I can't recall your name. So much confusion mixed in with the pandemic.

yesterday was demoralising. I had an hour long optical procedure booked for 2pm. My taxi didn't arrive on time and so I couldn't have the procedure. It's a cataract issue, I am hard of sight and it's driving me mad. But I really couldn't cope with the late taxi. Even though the opticians have, amazingly, fitted me in on 2nd September, but it is demoralising for me. Crazy. But that's stroke for you.

raining this morning. My cat is staying indoors so that means the rain will last. He is an amazing weather forecaster.

best wishes
