Let me introduce myself. I’m a 56 year old French teacher living in Abu Dhabi. Had a massive brain bleed last year leading to stroke. Was told i would never walk again.14 months on, im functional, left arm still useless but i’ve survived. My advice. Survival is in our hands, lots of self care, self love and damned hard work.I’ve had some dark dark days but im grateful to be here. I wrote a book while in rehab. It’s my journey but some say it has helped survivors to get through. Working on a book on spasticity out in a few weeks.
Hi and a big welcome to our community. We are a merry band of stroke survivors and their carers and families and between us we have a wealth of information and first hand experience and I hope you will find this a useful place to be.
Well done on writing a book whilst recovering from a stroke, that is no easy feat.
I hope your recovery continues in the right direction. As you say, Life is beautiful
Hello CarlAlvinDavies1969 and welcome to the community.
Ca va? Or as they used to teach in school when I were a lad “Comment allez vous?”
Congratulations on surviving the massive stroke and taking control of your life post-stroke. To be functional after having been told you would never walk again is a commendable achievement. Tres bon!
Well done on writing your book and for starting your next book.
I note you live in Abu Dhabi and I wonder how much if at all that location with its climate etc. may have contributed to your recovery. That is not to take away from your self-determination and belief in your recovery potential which I am sure is the major contributory factor.
It is wonderful to have you here and I am sure many will be inspired by your achievements.
@carlalvindavies1969 just popping by to say hi & welcome to the community. Sorry to hear of your stroke but well done on the progress you have made so far. Keep going & hopefully you’ll have further improvements in time & you never know that arm may become useful again.
Well done on writing a book or 2. I bet it was great to have the feedback that your book has helped others.
