Hello everyone! :)

Looking at all the posts here I feel like a bit of a fake. 2 months ago I had a stroke completely out of the blue just as I was leaving the flat to pop to the shops (I am a 42 y/o man). It only lasted a minute or so and after I was able to go to the shops though my fingers on the left didn’t move properly. After my TIA appointment completing an MRI they confirmed I had a stroke on the right side of my brain most likely due to lack of oxygen. Had 24 Echo and CT but both are clear. Now they think it might be linked to an autoimmune connective tissue thing. so I’m still not sure what the outcome is. I feel lucky though that I had not really had to stop doing anything. I carry on working and only have numbness in my left arm. Comparatively I got off lightly I think. Would be nice to talk to some of you guys and girls and share any similar stories. Take care! Cheers - AJ

Hi @AJ81

Welcome

No you’re not a fake you’re just one of the members of this forum and in terms of deficits you’ve got less than some of us. I’ve got less than some folk too.

It’s good that you went and got checked out. Strokes happen without risk factors being present but you have been given a wake up call and you would do well to heed it

If everybody who had a similar incident was aware of the potential significance then the incidents of debilitating strokes would reduce.

Enjoy the company here

Hi @AJ81

Welcome to the community, you’re very welcome here and not a fake. I hope you’ll find this community helpful. It’s always good to remember that everyone’s stroke is different and affects them in different ways, there are lots of ways that a stroke can affect people. I’m sure there will be people along to let you know they’ve felt similar to what you’ve expressed but have found much help within this community.

You are of course right that everybody’s stroke experience is unique to them. But that observation is at least for me also profoundly unhelpful.

Every breath I take is unique. I have never taken it before and will never take it again. But yet it bears a striking similarity to hundreds of thousands I’ve already had and will take.

The huge variety in stroke impacts and reactions :frowning: come from combination & emergence.

There is a pallet from which our pictures are painted to form a unique result; but the palate only contains a limited number of colours.

The value of the forum is that between us all we mostly have experience of all the different styles and techniques with which the colours are combined.

Rather than emphasising the difference in the totality the value is in finding and analysing the similarities in the components - they are after all the elements with which we can advise and compensate or emphasise and enjoy

Hi & welcome @AJ81

I agree with others that you are definitely not a fake. Everyone has different experiences / stories but they are all valid.

Hope they manage to confirm whats going on for you but it’s not unheard of for people not to know what caused their stroke. I know i had a carotid artery dissection but have no idea why it happened.

The main thing is you are doing ok. Watch out for fatigue. Hopefully you won’t be affected but it can sneak up when you least expect it.

Best wishes

Ann
