Happy Days

The fact I am writing this still kinda amazes me a little, I’m still and always will, be a recovering stroke survivor but yesterday I hit a new milestone.

For differing reasons the last few months have been busy and at times tough but have re-connected with my nephew in a big way as he needed support he has a passion for cycling so as part of this decided to join him as a mutual support and yesterday we done our first ride together( my first time cycling in a long time).

We done around 10 miles and it was great along a local canal path on a sunny day bumping into a mix of people, got home a little bit tired as pushed myself but loved it and can’t wait for next one later this week.

Got home and was tired of having overdosed on fresh air, a nice long hot bath later and some hot chocolate before meds and bed. Strange thing just as I was about to fall asleep looked back at the day I was told sir you have had a stroke thinking you are doing "no bad " as a survivor so happy days.

Well done you Jbob!!! Hi I’m Sue and had a haemorragic stroke 22 months ago, so like you am still recovering, but doing a cycle ride along the canal was an amazing achievement, so well done, I hope you feel proud of yourself. I am still trying to walk a bit of distance. I walk around home, but my goal is that I’m trying to walk to our local corner shop as I used to do before my stroke. It’s probably about a 5 minute walk normally but as yet, even with my rollator it’s still too far, but I’ll do it one day and I’d prefer to do it on my walking stick then on my own 2 legs !! One day. However, its nice to read you and your nephew can get out and ride, good exercise for you too, so I wish you well and hope you both have many more adventures together. Take care, keep recovering and just enjoy the freedom of getting out and about. That’s great :+1:

Good old procedural memory, it can often override brain injury complications. After hospital, I couldn’t walk properly but oddly enough could cycle. Cycle for an hour and then shuffle back to the house :joy::bicycle:. Glad you found the hwyl to do it and enjoyed it.

Thanks everyone for your kind messages of support and encouragement, I’m hoping to keep going introducing the gym back into my life in the next few weeks. At 18 months down the line count my blessings that I’m so lucky but know progress will not always be linear but just now just feeling good, not a bad place to be.
