Much appreciated, thank you.
Hi @Redfox
Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about your stroke and the difficulties you’re facing with vertigo and balance problems. Great to hear you’ve been referred to ENT though, hopefully they will be able to figure things out. As others have mentioned anxiety about having another stroke is common, it helps to talk about these things so that you can be supported through it.
I’m pleased to hear that the stroke team have been good and that you’ve found the Stroke Association helpful.
I hope you’ll find this community helpful. If you need anything whilst you’re using the Online Community, please don’t hesitate to tag me using the @ symbol and my username.

This is probably a fair point. GPs don’t have all the answers and sometimes we have to steer them in the right direction. By that I mean, try to give them as much information as possible and then think of what they offer as a solution. I find we as patients are better placed to know our own bodies then GPs. I might not be explaining this very well, but I have had to go back to GPs several times to allow them to rule things out before finally getting to a solution. This might sound daft, and maybe it is, but in my experience that is how it works. I don’t necessarily take everything a GP says at face value. Also, they are time constrained and they often rely on their computer system and most recent visit/medical history as a guideline rather than looking at the bigger picture. This may work for some, but I tread cautiously when it comes to dealing with GPs or even consultants. Just my view.
I expect it is not that uncommon to feel this (two steps forward and one step back). Recovery will not necessarily be linear and don’t forget, we can always pick up other ailments / viruses outside of the stroke bubble which may impact us and we may attribute it to stroke but it is something new. Even the extreme heatwave may be impacting many in ways not experienced before and as stroke survivors we might just think it is stroke related.
@Redfox - Hello, nice to meet you and welcome to the forum.
As has been mentioned you are early on in your post-stroke journey and so there may be some settling in before things are stable and you know where you’re heading.
Hopefully by sharing your story on this forum, your journey will be smoother ![]()
Wishing you all the best.
Seems like a very sensible thing to do ![]()
Hi ManjiB - yes I agree. I’d like to be able to get to someone (professional) who has time, knowledge and experience of patients in stroke recovery but its proving very difficult - haven’t done it yet!
Apologies if you’ve already covered this, but have you been seen at ENT or had your ears checked. After the stroke, my Mum needed her ears cleaning more than was necessary prior to the stroke. I believe this (excessive ear wax) can affect balance.
Wrt the specialist physios, you are right, they are hard to find, but keep looking and you never know - they say “All good things …”
