Hello, my name It’s Veronika. My partner Ivan (45) It’s recovering after stroke, what’s happened 27.5.2026 . He had his right side paralysed and he it’s speechless. In the moment he walking with walking stick ,communicating it’s getting better and better but one think what worries me it’s that his weak hand it’s constantly very painful. For that he don’twant to eaven using that hand much. I would like to ask if it’s this normal to have this pain all the time ?!? If I asked GP for consultation, they give me phone appointment with pharmaceutist for give him Pregabalin . It’s was helpful I can say ,but wit next prescription GP rejected Pregabalin . So he it’s without painkiller with constantly pain.

Who can answer me if the pain it’s normal or absolutely not. Many thanks for the advice

Veronika

Hi @Ivan & welcome to the community.

Pain can be normal after a stroke. Not everyone gets it byt some people suffer with it a lot. There is a condition called Central Post Stroke Pain (CPSP). It has recently been discussed on the forum & I have copied in a link to that discussion which also includes a link to the Stroke Association leaflet on CPSP.

Unsure why the GP wouldn’t prescribe more pregablin & if it worked I would try asking again.

Hi and welcome to both of you, like @Mrs5K has said pain is a common thing to experience, for me it was good as it showed that the nerves were not dead. I also suffered months of phantom itching and coldness in my arm and shoulder but cleared. Good health to you both and hoping Ivan has a strong recovery.
