Confused

Hi all, going mad not being able to process being told I have suffered a cerebellar infarct and not knowing I have, a mri I had for to rule out anything neurological found an ‘old cerebellar infarct’ but all else ok. gp had me in to discuss says suffered a stroke and now taking preventative meds to prevent anything else. then after chatted with a neurologist to be told not a stroke although mri states the infarct? so have I had one or not, he can’t date when it happened or tell me anything more except a few heart tests to see if that caused the infarct, its all confusing and I have questions, I was seeing the gp end of July for numbness, tingling and fatigue back in July last July, had numerous tests to get no definite answers, fast forward to end of October (wed) when suddenly I came all over dizzy, sick, swaying and felt that I couldn’t hold myself up legs like jelly and the kids telling me I spoke funny, can’t remember hours or what followed and remained in bed (fri) till got to drs who questioned TIA which later after a phone call several days later from clinic so nope not in keeping with TIA and said to rest??? fast forward to now to receive this mri info and me thinking this is all linked back to October, I can’t process any of this and feel I need to see the mri which I have done a SAR to get a copy and speak to someone who can explain things, mri says an infarct but gp after speaking for advice to neurologist says no haven’t had a stroke. great if you’ve got this far and get what im saying as I don’t most days and just wanted to chat to people in same boat apologies for the long post x

Hello @Hales78 welcome.
I have some issues in common with you re inconclusive results.
My CT on admission was inconclusive but ? R side brain changes perhaps.
My symptoms were not common, I was sick then unconscious, but no weakness either side. They queried L drop of mouth. ? TIA
As an out patient MRI showed probable L brain ischaemic stroke, due to have another in March (last one Dec) as Cons. not entirely sure but more than likely L ischaemic stroke.
So that’s the working diagnosis.
I have decided there may never be a cut and dried diagnosis so I must try and get used to it.
You are not alone.

@Hales78 Hi & welcome to the community. Sorry to read that there is so muxh uncertainty over a diagnosis for you. It does seem strange that an MRI seems to show a stroke but neurologist saying not. I’d be asking then why they think that if GP thinks it is. The Neurologist is probably better placed to know. You are entitled to a 2nd opinion so look at that option.

Sometimes there are no clear answers but you have symptoms that sound stroke like. There is another condition called Functional Neurological Disorder which can mimic a stroke. You can read about that on neurosymptoms.org website.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Best wishes

Ann

Hello. Sorry to read about this. You’re in the right place, as most of us have had a stroke. It’s a very unsettling diagnosis and in my instance the mental side of it was worse than the physical, as seems to be the case for you.

Good luck in your search for answers and let us know how it’s going

Thanks for ypur reply , I haven’t seen a neurologist this was feedback after gp spoke for ‘advice and guidance’ going back to gp to see if can get referred to stroke clinic and they may be able to explain mri better, as more special field to them, if I’m being given meds to reduce another then I must have had one but to say I haven’t then why get me to take 5e meds, I don’t want to delay any preventative treatment if needed but on the other hand don’t want to have if no real need

Thank you and will do

It may be a precautionary thing by your GP until they know for sure. Better to be safe than sorry. Fingers crossed you get the answers you need soon.

I feel your frustration , I just want to know either way so I can process and deal with it and not go forward with what ifs

Oh dear,

I presume you had CES-I (rather than CES-R) cauda equina?
So single leg heel raise is out of the question?

just trying to get the full picture,
ciao R

Needed a disectomy and Lamonectomy and lost the use temp from waist down , had to learn to walk again and lost use of bowel and bladder and slowly regained use back whilst 22 weeks pregnant drop foot and muscle weakness was the long term effects from that, not much was to,d to me about how and why happened and left to get on with what I could and improve me , the go did question if this was the start of the result on the mri but that was 13 years ago…

Hi @Hales78

Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about the confusion you’re experiencing regarding whether or not you’ve had a a stroke. I hope you’ll get some answers to this soon. I agree with @Mrs5K in that you could get a second opinion on this which may help.

Wishing you well on your journey and please do keep us updated on your progress.
