Well done on the puzzles today. I too have never heard of jack cheese & took a lucky stab.
Hope your mum’s infection clears up quickly. Good to hear that you had a nice sympathetic GP visit.
Fantastic news about your mum’s water drinking too. That is great progress indeed. She is definitely an inspirational lady as are you all too. It isn’t easy what you all do for her. I take my hat off to you.
Thanks Ann - I think we, especially my sister have found out that taking care of Mum post-stroke is nothing like it has turned out to be. My sister likes to plan and when Mum was in hospital, she had already started thinking of how Mum would be looked after and who would do what. The problem was she made assumptions about the willingness of others to do what she (my sister) thought they would/could do. In her mind, Mum would be back on her feet in no time! This was purely because we had never seen anyone with a stroke being nursed back to health. We looked after my Dad when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and then my sister had the lead role and I think she though this would be the same. Big difference being, Dad had been given a few months to live and was soon on palliative care after chemo didn’t work. The punchline is that Mum didn’t recover as fast as we might have thought, others did not come running to help out and indeed some became reluctant contributors over time.
It has finally dawned on her the extent to which she had misjudged the whole thing and finally she now occasionally lets slip that she needs a break and it’s not easy etc. But to her credit, she soldiers on
Caring for Mum is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life and I am sure it is the same for my sister. Despite that, when people say as you do “It isn’t easy what you all do for her. I take my hat off to you.”, I feel like a fraud. I say that because sometimes we just don’t know what to do help Mum and she ends up “suffering” whereas if she was being cared for she might get better help. But as soon as I write the previous sentence, I know what nonsense that is - there is absolutely no way Mum could get better care than she is getting now, no matter how rubbish we might think it is. So why do I feel like a fraud?
Anyway, back to the light relief and destressing (not distressing)
Really pleased with my results today.
Was looking clueless until about 15 minutes ago on the connections and then suddenly it all fell into place and bizarrely it was the purple connections that kicked it off albeit with a slight stutter.

Puzzle #746
Wordle
Might have blown out, but in the end the options were much reduced and managed to get the word
Wordle 1,468 5/6
Waffle 4*
So I’ll take that as a goo day at the office, especially as Mum is quietly have her lunch
I think we all underestimate how difficult caring for someone will be. You should never doubt how well you are doing though even if sometimes you get it a little wrong. There is no way the care system wpuld provide better for your mum they just don’t have the time / capacity to do it. I helped care for my dad with terminal cancer too & it was very tough but we always knew there would be an end point which in some ways makes it a bit easier. Never feel a fraud. Many people couldn’t or wouldn’t do what you are.
I had a lucky break with the first connection this morning. I thought the connection might be people with the first name Steve / Stephen / Steven so selected 4 based on that only to find out the connection was playing cards. But hey I got them even if it was a fluke. Once I got that first one the others seemed to come easily enough today. One of my better attempts.

Wordle was 5 again. I didn’t think I was going to get the word today but did eventually sort it out.
Spooky - I just finished my puzzles and it didn’t take long which was rather surprising but I’ll take it. The results very similar to yours except I got 3* on the waffles.
Connections bit of a struggle as always, though got started with your help about inventors. Got the second connection easy enough but hit a wall with the next and blew out
Connections
Puzzle #748
Wordle - Got it in 2, luck I guess
Wordle 1,470 2/6
Some good results yesterday for you even if you didn’t manage 2 of the connections. Getting any connections is an achievement.
Todays wordle I did in 4 but I made a mistake with my 2nd word as forgot to include the T which I already had in the right place.
Wordle 1,471 4/6
Connections were ok although I did think the one connection might be to do with planets / solar system as there were parts of words containing star, sun, earth & moon. But nope I thought wrong. After I got the first connection i had a little hiccup with the yellow ones then they all came ok.

Waffle was just 3 *s today. Over all happy with the outcome.

Melting up here today. Meabt to be worse tomorrow. Stay hydrated.
Took the best part of the day to get going on the connections - came back so many times before getting the break and then it was pretty straightforward.
Wordle nearly got me, but it was a Phew! and finished the Waffle with 2*

It’s finally cooling down - been hot and groggy today. Hope you’re wrong about tomorrow
Well done on yesterday’s results. You made it with Wordle even if it was close – they all count
All puzzles went well for me today.
Connections went well. I got the first 2 reasonably quickly. Then had to think a lot about the next one – I have to say it was partly a lucky guess but luck paid off and I got them all with no mistakes.

Wordle I got in the blink of an eye today- well almost. It was done in 3 moves. Very happy with that.
Wordle 1,472 3/6
It was 3*s for Waffle. I’ll take that one.
#waffle1256 3/5
streak: 27 #wafflesilverteam
Deluxe Waffle I completed with 4 moves left so very happy with that.
It’s been a warm one today. Meant to be much better tomorrow though – phew. Not nice having to work in all this heat but I won’t complain too much as it’ll soon be back to the good old British rain I am sure.
Oh bad luck with connections yesterday. It may well have been the heat that affected you and you may have had your mum’s physio session on your mind. Hope that session went well and you got what you expected from it. Physio is difficult for anyone so try not to expect too much in the initial stages. Although your mum sounds like a trooper so if anyone can do it I am sure she can. How is she after her session?
Connections went smoothly this morning. I got them very quickly.

Puzzle #751
Wordle took a bit of thinking about and then I remembered that it is an American thing so tried an American spelling of a word and voila it worked. So got it in 4 in the end. I nearly forgot to change my starter word as it is a new month today. Not sure I am happy with my new word but will stick with it now (was a bit of a rushed choice as I forgot to think about it)
Wordle 1,473 4/6
Waffle was 3*s again. I was aiming for 4 but will take 3.
#waffle1257 3/5
streak: 28 #wafflesilverteam
All in all quite a successful puzzling day.
Hope the heat isn’t too bad with you today. It’s not great here but hoping it will cool down slightly for tomorrow. Never happy are we My non working day tomorrow and I’m looking forward to it. Work is just too busy at the moment. I can’t keep up with it all.
Good run with the puzzles for you - well done.
I’m not too bothered about my connections wobbles - I feel this will take a while. It’s like me and crossword puzzles, I just can’t get the hang of them. Sudokus I can normally manage.
I completed all puzzles today in super quick time and am happy even with the 2* Waffle.

I did the DeLuxe after your note yesterday and completed with 2*.
Trooper (believe it or not, that is one of Mum’s [many] pet names) was amazing yesterday with the physiotherapy even though it was a hot day. We were worried she might not be up for it, but boy how wrong we were, but then we should have known.
I’ll update you and Lorraine on the other thread, just in case anyone else may find it useful someday.
Thanks for asking. We are thrilled and looking forward to the rest of the week and then we need to plan for the next few weeks.
Well done on your puzzle run today. Success all round.
I am so pleased the physio went well too. I think Trooper is a very apt pet name for your mum. She certainly is one. I have responded on your other thread.
Wordle was a hard fought 4 today. I struggled to think of words with the letter I had found & in the end I had to guess a word without one of my known letters so I could move on. Turned out to be a good move as I then had more letters and got the word.
Wordle 1,474 4/6
Connections was tough too. I got the yellow set then had to go away & think about it. After a bit of messing around I then got the blue set but the 4th word was a complete guess & still don’t know what T-Pain is.
I then started to look at part words as I had no clue for remaining 2 & toom the word fresh & played around with it a bit. Fresh/new that type of thing. So then thought Jun(iper) might be junior, Soph(ocles) might be sophomore so all new / fresh type words so went with that & it paid off. Thankfully connection 4 was the default one.

Puzzle #752
A proper brain workout that was.
Waffle was 3*s again. And after wordle & connections was easy enough.
Oh shame about yesterday’s connections but you did very well on Wordle and Waffle.
Well, I found connections a little bit easier today and got them relatively quickly although the blue ones were a bit of a guess and the purple ones still a bit of an odd mix to me. But I’ll take it even if I didn’t really know what all the connections were.
Wordle was a struggle this morning but I did eventually get it in 5. It wasn’t a difficult word but I just couldn’t see the word with the letters I had. My new starter word isn’t going well so far. But the law of averages says it should come good at some point so I’ll stick with it and just think harder for my next.
Waffle was a glorious 5 this morning although I did think I had blown my chances of 5 as I made a move I didn’t mean to.
I’m not able to upload my scores today as I have had a new phone & tge scores are on my old device
Oh dear - my strategy to knock it on the head early failed miserably.
Connections were there to be found, but I don’t get a single one
Still made up for it on Wordle and Waffle. I am back to “random” starter words as in think of something and use that. Today the word drive came into my head, which I attribute to all the Driving related posts on this forum recently - this is how my brain seems to work
Pity it can’t make connections yet, but it is a matter of time.
