Brain dump - To medicate or not medicate

This is a rhetorical post as I need to talk to my brick and this is now one of my bricks.

[day_journal - Today]

  • An issue arose - crept up on us silently or we took our eyes off the ball, either way it happened.
  • What “it” is is not known as no conclusive tests were carried out, how
  • ever it could be “acid reflux”
  • Medications were prescribed to treat symptoms rather than cause (cause not known or ascertained)
  • Condition/issue has stabilised, but is it down to medication or passing of time and body “self healing”
  • If down to medication is treatment now complete or does it need to continue?
  • If continuation is the answer then this might be a problem as medication comes with side effects that are already noticeable
  • Who is best placed to advise?

A difficult one. A pharmacist might be able to advise re meds. But they probably can’t advise re medical issue.

From my experience reflux often needs long term medication. Or it has in my family.

Not much help I’m afraid. Hope you resolve the dilemma soon.

Yourself . It can seem like AR - you sure it’s not a side effect of meds? Some of them relax the stomach sphincter muscle. Also , as in my case, if you have dysphasia this can cause undigested food to escape into your pipe (osphaegus/trachea?). Bucayif soda is excellent for acid reflux or heartburn but only to a degree. Half tspn in half small glass of warm water. Even better with one drop of peppermint essential oil ( organic, of course). The muscles all the way from the mouth (tongue) if weak may need exercising to strengthen them because what you need (if I’m reading you correctly) is a long term solution :folded_hands:t2:

Rhetorical answer. The first thing Earthing fixes is the gut
Today after Earthing I had extra bowel movement detox type
I’ve almost solved my inflamed pancreas (insulin production)

My proteins no longer stay stuck in my gut ; they metabolize like they haven’t done for 30 years. It’s no wonder Gaia fixes the gut first. I am flabbergasted at my gut healing I have achieved post stroke. Unfortunately my nerves (excitotoxicity with NMDA receptors) are nowhere near on track - but I believe do have a viable 'pathway’. Fix gut = fix nerves. Time will tell.

I often take Sodium bicarbonate

Bucayif soda vs sodium bicarbonate
Excellent question. This gets to a very specific and important distinction in chemistry and practical use. Let’s break it down.

The Core Difference in One Sentence

Bucayi̇f soda is a common commercial brand name for a household product that contains sodium bicarbonate as its primary ingredient, but it is not chemically pure sodium bicarbonate.

It’s like the difference between “Kleenex” (a brand of facial tissue) and “facial tissue” (the general product category).

Sodium Bicarbonate (The Pure Chemical)

  • Chemical Formula: NaHCO₃
  • What it is: A pure chemical compound, a white crystalline powder. It is a salt formed from sodium (Na⁺) and bicarbonate (HCO₃⁻) ions.
  • Properties:
    • Mildly alkaline (base). It neutralizes acids.
    • Releases carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas when mixed with an acid (or heated). This is what causes baked goods to rise.
    • Pure and food-grade versions are available.
  • Primary Uses:
    • Leavening Agent: Baking (as baking soda).
    • Medical: Antacid for heartburn, alkalizing agent in certain medical conditions (must be prescribed/directed).
    • Laboratory/Industrial: Standard reagent, pH buffer, cleaning agent.
    • Personal Care: Mild abrasive in toothpaste, deodorant.
    • Neutralization: For acid spills.

Bucayi̇f Soda (The Branded Product)

  • What it is: A popular Turkish brand of “baking soda” or “cleaning soda” sold for household use.
  • Composition: While its main active ingredient is sodium bicarbonate, it is not chemically pure. It is specifically formulated and intended for cleaning and deodorizing.
    • It may contain added surfactants (soap-like agents), perfumes (for scent), or other compounds to boost its cleaning power and make it more user-friendly for household tasks.
  • Primary Uses:
    • Cleaning: Scrubbing sinks, bathtubs, ovens, and surfaces.
    • Deodorizing: Placed in refrigerators, trash cans, carpets.
    • Laundry: As a laundry booster and fabric softener.
    • General Household: Unclogging drains (when mixed with vinegar), removing stains.

Critical Comparison Table

Feature Sodium Bicarbonate (Pure) Bucayi̇f Soda
Nature A pure chemical compound (NaHCO₃). A branded, formulated household product.
Purity High purity (e.g., 99%+ for food/medical grade). A mixture; primary ingredient is sodium bicarbonate.
Main Use Versatile: Baking, medical, lab, personal care. Specific: Household cleaning & deodorizing.
Safety for Ingestion YES – Food-grade and medical-grade are safe to consume in appropriate amounts. NO – NOT FOR CONSUMPTION. It is for external/cleaning use only.
Additives None (in pure form). Often contains cleaning agents, fragrances, etc.
Where to Buy Pharmacies (medical grade), baking aisles (food grade), chemical suppliers. Supermarkets in the cleaning products aisle (in Turkey and regions where it’s sold).

The Most Important Warning

:warning: DO NOT USE BUCAYİF SODA FOR BAKING OR AS AN ANTACID.
You cannot substitute Bucayi̇f soda for baking soda (pure sodium bicarbonate) in recipes or for medical purposes. The additives in Bucayi̇f can be harmful if ingested and will ruin the taste and safety of your food.

Analogy to Clarify

  • Sodium Bicarbonate is like “Ethanol” (pure alcohol).
  • Baking Soda (Food Grade) is like “Vodka” (a consumable form of ethanol, made for drinking).
  • Bucayi̇f Soda is like “Rubbing Alcohol” (ethanol denatured with additives to make it poisonous and suitable only for disinfecting surfaces).

Conclusion

If you need to bake or need an antacid, you must buy food-grade sodium bicarbonate (often sold as Baking Soda or Arm & Hammer in many countries). If you need to clean your kitchen or deodorize a room, a product like Bucayi̇f Soda is perfectly designed for that job. Always read the label and intended use.
