@andrew90 I had applied for mine when I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and at the time I sent the consultants letter and any hospital info I had. Blue badge was issued immediately, This was done in Scotland. I have just applied for my second and included I had the stroke and change of address. Issued immediately. This was in England. My Osteoarthritis is uncurable so I will always have my badge. Have a great day :revolving_hearts: If you are a stroke survivor. then the answer is yes, because you do not know and stroke can take years to recover from, if you ever do.:four_leaf_clover:

Hi, I’ve just seen your message regarding your application for a blue badge. I believe the best way is to consider how you are now and answer questions as to what problems you are having at the moment in time with mobility and pain or difficulty in walking etc., and if possible a letter from your GP explaining the difficulties you are experiencing. I know they ask for the length of time and I would put ongoing/long term issues. It is difficult and the questions aren’t exactly the easiest to answer, but based on your circumstances now I would just accept that it is long term. I’m not legally trained, but as with everything, it is made difficult to apply for help when we need it. You can always stop a blue badge if you get better, but you have to jump through many hoops to get one! Good luck with your application I hope you get the result and help you need.

I think your best vet is to say how you are now. Stroke recovery isn’t a quick process but if you do recover enough before a year is up uou can send your blue badge back. Citizens Advice can probably help with your application.

I think it is best to answer what you think might be true.

No-one is expected to know with certainty what will happen.

When i applied for mine my local council just wanted to see a copy of my PIP certificate

The hospital helped me with mine. Maybe yours would too - it would be worth asking.

I have a blue badge following a stroke 3 yrs ago which has recently been renewed. I took the view that , although I didn’t know if I would still need one in three years time, I needed one when I applied. I had an assessment and was given one. Three years on my mobility has improved and I can walk more than 50 yards using a stick and a foot brace but there are still places I need to go where the pavements are very tricky for me to walk safely on so I use it in those situations.

I don’t want to be in the position of being afraid to go out because that’s not good for me mentally.

I hope this helps.

hi thanks for your comments , could i ask please if in your initial application you have to say how far you can walk ? ie is there set rules on how far you can walk ? did you have to attend an interview ?
