Beware the perils of Clopidogrel!,

Hi @StillRenee I hope you’re doing better now? It is strange but having had over 14 ops now for many reasons and having hospitals as my second home  I’ve had many allergic reactions over the years to different tablets/medicines. It always surprises me when the paperwork with meds says ‘only 1 in 10,000 etc., have a certain allergy’ as I think - well that’s only because they’re the ill ones that are using it, if you tried it on all the population I’m sure lots more would have a reaction, but at least you’re not using it now. Take care, Bert.

@StillRenee just popping by to say hi & welcome to the forum. Sounds like you’ve been through it a bit but are fighting on. Hope you manage to get rid of some of your lingering effects from your 2nd stroke.

Best wishes

Hope you’re both doing ok now.
I was very interested in your Clopidogrel stories. I spent much of last week researching Clopidogrel and what I’ve learned has convinced me that this is a drug I definitely don’t want to be on. In fact, I don’t want to be on an antiplatelet at all. It would seem that that there are too many problems associated with all of them, also that they will prevent very few secondary strokes and can actually be the cause of them. They don’t just stop blood from clotting; they’re believed to cause possible changes in the brain which may be irreversible. A lot more research is needed.
I spoke to my GP this morning and told him I want to discontinue Clopidogrel. I explained my reasons for the decision and he agreed they’re valid. I’m stopping from today. This decision is right for me based on my research and the fact that I have no other co-morbidities apart from hypertension which is now controlled. Everyone has to decide for themselves.

Hi @Trace57 - I’m great thanks, hope you’re okay too👍
We all have these difficult decisions to make don’t we? But I feel we learn more from each other on here as we’ve all had strokes and all have experiences we can discuss on here and then it’s upto each one of us to make our own minds up or go to the gp armed with what we have learned. I think it’s amazing how we help each other.
