Thanks for the links. I signed up to a free course in mindfulness on Future Learn. Unfortunately I couldn't concentrate enough to do the course! I have used a DVD by Jon Kabbat Zin. Any thought on focusing the brain? Cheers Hilary

The concentration can be a challenge and personally I find Jon K-Z has an irritating voice!
There are many ways to practice mindfulness - making a cup of tea, having a shower, cleaning your teeth,it can be anything and it doesn't have to last long. start with a minute and build it up.
Your mind will definitely wander - its what minds are supposed to do. When you notice it happening, just keep gently bringing it back, dont get ratty with yourself.
Half the trick is to find something which engages you and is part of your daily life and then do it with focus and attention. Don't force it.
Mindfulness isn't for everyone, and don't feel bad if it doesn't chime with you.
I'd try the One Moment Meditation technique - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6eFFCi12v8 - and gradually build it up.
Can suggest other things too.

Hi Jayc, I have been suffering from dreadful stress and anxiety for 5 months now..as a result of exhaustive tests because my blood levels for platelets were higher then normal and low sodium blood result....Well I am fine and the meds I take have been the culprits.However,my confidence had gone ,after all I had felt so healthy before the tests,so I wondered what could become wrong ??? Dr Claire Weekes books and UTube talks are the very best advice you could have,they are down to earth,straight talking and sensible.Please take time to look at them,and good luck! It's not an easy time for everyone now,but look after yourself and let me know how you get on X June
