I have realised that if I need to turn around I always turn anticlockwise. I can’t think why, it doesn’t bother me, it is just an example of the strange ways our brains behave.
Is your affected side on your right, Janet? I think you should be able to work on that, and perhaps overcome it…?
Good luck , Roland
No. left side affected. But as I say it doesn’t bother me, just an example of our weird brains.
I’ve been noticing for a while how much I now do thing to the left or left 1st.
I’m right (ex-dominant) side affected
I wonder if it is a negative unhelpful consequence of neuroplasticity
Interesting, Janet… when I notice that I can do something in one direction more readily than the opposite direction I view that as a big opportunity. I think it really helps to work out both directions equally. I used to fly sports kites, and some tricks I could do in one direction but not the other… of course you learn the trick whichever way you can, then transferring those skills (to a mirror image version) was a huge but rewarding challenge… but the satisfaction and feeling of completeness to master both directions was huge.
ciao, Roland
Wow!
Me too !
I’ve got several FlexFoils and other aerofoils, a Dunford Flying Machine, numerous deltas, and sledge kites!
Needs two reliable hands

Simon
Excellent, Simon. I never got into power kites, but was into dual-line sports kites / I had / still have the whole range of Prism kites from Seattle… and Benson kites here in the UK
I lost my right side and my right was my dominant hand. I shave my head and I found it really difficult shaving with my left hand. I recovered my right , but I keep using both hands in turn to shave my head. I don’t want to be stuck again if I have another stroke that takes away my right!
Brushing teeth left handed was also really difficult and I swapped over to the right as soon as I could, but I plan to work on using my left as well.
Janetb. That’s strange be because I too am left side affected and now you mention it I too turn anticlockwise. Just irritates me that I have to turn in a circle rather than step backwards. As you say very strange
Hey @SimonInEdinburgh ,
yet another thing in common then… I’ve still got a number of FlexFoils and Quad foils along with a buggy in the shed
Did paragliding for a bit too but I don’t think I’ll be getting back to that for a while.
I did microlighting too
Think that’s off the table currently
My Flexisvare all small enough that they won’t lift me.
Always fancied Cody Man Lifting kite
Hope things are good
I used to stack 4 flexiFoils and then have a tether back from a climbing harness to a ground anchor so I’d often find myself off my feet, even more so when the anchor gave way one day and I got dragged what felt like half way across the New Forest
Not sure that even a Cody would get me off the ground these days though, 2 years of lack of real exercise + stopping smoking + Pregabalin has not been great for the figure
I used to put a peg as ground anchor too but I didn’t stack the flexi-s
I knew folk did but the pull was already enough!
Liked the fact that I could twirl the bar as the kite looped the loop to keep the lines from having too many twists when the friction would the be a problem
Never tried Japanese fighting kites with glue and glass powder on the line but did think that would be fun to try - oh well
Nostalgia isn’t what it was
Could that be because you tend to pivot on your stroke leg? I used to find myself doing that a lot, particularly around the kitchen presumably because of its layout. I’m glad I’m passed that now. My hubby would just stand there and for me for my brain to catch up and get with program while I figured out where I was going and what I wanted to do
I’m left affected and since you mentioned it I’ve been checking myself and I also have the same preference for anti-clockwise rotation.
That said I never thought about it pre-stroke so maybe I’ve always been that way?
I too turn anticlockwise but i think thats probably because my left foot doesn’t lift off the floor so would struggle to turn clockwise.
