Acute left temporal infarct. Looking to connect with people with similar diagnosis/symptoms

Hi everyone. I’m female, 44 (on meds for diabetes, high BP, cholesterol for last 3 years). I woke up on sunday 1st March with difficulty speaking and muffled speech. Long story short, I eventually was taken to hospital by paramedics and an MRI confirmed a stroke (clot) on the left side of my brain. My speech is much better now but I do still muffle some some words however I correct myself immediately. I am struggling with fatigue, cognitive issues around processing information and memory, as well as heightened sensitivity to noises especially background noises. I am gutted about it but also feel lucky it was not worse for me. I would appreciate speaking with people who had similar symptoms to me. I am not sure why but maybe it might help speaking to someone in a similar boat.

@Shilpi26 I had a TIA in which my speech went doolally. Can’t say my stroke was absolutely the same. I was older than you. Welcome to the group!

Hello, welcome to the community. I suffered similar symptoms post stroke to you. It’s still really early days for you. Take some time to heal and rest and you’ll find that’s when things might start improving for you. My stroke was 2 years ago but it was a good 6-8 months before I even started beginning to feel a little like myself again. In the mean time whilst resting you could check out the “share and listen” online activities session. It’s a lovely opportunity to speak to other stroke survivors and see you’re not alone. There’s lots of people on there with tips and tricks to try.

Good Luck

Hi @Shilpi26 welcome to the community. Sorry to hear of your stroke. You’ll find this a welcoming and friendly community to be part of.

You are still at the very early stages of your recovery journey & the issues you describe are fairly common ones. They usually settle in time but even for mild strokes recovery is talked of in terms of months not weeks.

Fatigue needs to be managed & at this stage your brain needs plenty of rest to help it recover. Even things like watching the TV or listening to music are stimulating your brain and will fatigue you. Even when you are feeling ok try not to fo too much as you will feel the consequences later.

I have heightened sensitivity to noise & I bought some loop earplugs to help with it although you may find it settles in the coming weeks so perhaps it woild be better to wait and see how you get on before spending any money.

The Stroke Association run a Here for You Service where you can speak to someone who has been through the same issues as you. If that’s of interest then you can fins out more Here

They also have a leaflet on fatigue which you can find Here

Best wishes

Hello @Shilpi26 - welcome to the community.
Sorry you’ve had a stroke :frowning:
You are absolutely right - speaking with others whether in the same boat or not will definitely help. Sometimes it just helps to get things off your chest. You can even do this by just writing about how you feel in a journal/diary or a plain notebook.

Wishing you all the best as you come to terms with the stroke and recover from it.
